Vicksburg Cannon Crew
« on: October 18, 2009, 05:29:10 AM »
My wife joined a volunteer cannon crew at the Vicksburg Military Park.  The park owns a replica 12 pound Napoleon from Steen.  Usually they use kids to crew the gun in the summer months and then it just sits in a barn.  The chief interpretor wants to get volunteers to be able to do enfield and cannon demos on the weekends at other times of the year.

Wish my health would allow me to play.

I will take some pics and keep ya'll posted.

Oh...and BTW...this Napoleon is kept so polished that you could use it as a mirror to shave.

So much for patina.

I would like to come see it one day.  I live in Meridian but work in Vicksburg working for the KCS Railroad.  I am currently building a mountain howitzer in full scale but I am new to the hobby.

Just getting my feet wet with cannons.  I have built a few semi auto builds like the MG 42,MP40, Bren gun, AK's, FAL,PPSH41, and black powder rifles and have been doing a little gunsmithing for about 18 years.  Cannons have always been interesting but I can't afford to buy one and it would be much more enjoyable to build one. I am going to start with a mountain howitzer and eventually move up to a field gun.

That sounds like a plan.  Make sure you look at the stickies at the top of the home page.  Lots of information there.  Also keep asking questions and searching for answers.  The people here are more than helpful and will assist you anyway they can.
