Help ID'ing a Japanese Tasco
« on: October 18, 2009, 01:47:43 PM »
My B-I-L just called asking about a Tasco Scope that had been left in a rental house that he owns.

All the markings that He could ID is "Japan".  Good so far.
A-55-8
619 W

It is a 4x12 40.  From his description it has a sun shade on it but doesn't appear to have target knobs.

I haven't seen the scope yet.

Any idea what we are looking at here?

Thanks,
lc

619w is part number I think
Found this old webpage with few minutes work:

Looks like seller at auction site was doing a little guess work.  Since it is Japanese made and the AO goes to 25 yards then you should have a good squirrel/varmint scope at lower powers.  I don't believe that anyone will honor warranty work on it anymore since being bought/sold/bought....

At least you got a good price on it.

I can't say that I specifically remember that model but will say the Japanese made Tasco scopes in general were good scopes well worth what they cost. If it is a World Class or World Class Plus which should be marked clearly on the scope it's an excellent scope. If not WC then it's not as good but still if made in Japan it's not a bad scope but you'll need to just toss it when it quits on you as there is no longer warranty service on them and getting one fixed without warranty will cost more than it's worth.
