Chilled to the bone
« on: October 18, 2009, 03:43:33 PM »
It's in the 20s today, never warmed up to freezing.  That's a switch, last week it was in the 60s.  Still no snow.  Went out and set some traps for Beaver in the area where I have been shooting them.  Right in front of the lodge there is open water where it is flowing fast.  I stepped out of the canoe to set the trap and my feet slipped.  Went in up to my waist.

"Since you are down there here set these traps". My partner said.  So I drove six poles into the bottom, and set three conniber 330s.  Climbed back into the canoe and paddled back to the truck.  Drove the five miles back to the house.  Stripped down, dried off, put on dry clothes, chilled bad.  Built a fire in the fireplace, sitting beside the blower, and still can't warm up.  My feet and legs are like ice.

Wife says as I get older I become more of a wuss.

Sourdough:

I think you were asking for this, correct? Don't you need some ice to do some of the hunting you want?

The problem with this kind of change is that you don't get a chance to acclimate and it seems colder. In our case here it was positively t-shirt weather today when it got over 60F after being in the 40s for so long.

Last week here in NC we had daytime high temps in the high 70s to low 80s today it didn't get out of the 40s.
Warm by your standards but still a heck of an abrupt change for us.  I even had to put on a sweat shirt this afternoon.  If this trend continues I may have to get out my jacket before Thanks Giving.  :o ;)

I remember when I was a kid. My best friend and I were running around a lake on the ice. We were racing and I was saying out loud Dale Risher comming around the stretch and at that point I went through the ice. I will never forget that moment. Talk about taking your breath away. I was lucky we were only in about 4 feet of water at the time. My friend helped me climb out of the water back onto the ice. Our cabin was less than a mile away but it was way below freezing at the time. By the time I got back to the cabin I was frozen still. My cloths were frozen solid my hair was frozen and when I stripped my cloths off I was purple. I do not ever recall being that cold since. I remember standing in front of the wood burner trying to get warm. Dale

William:  I too am on blood thinners.  I think that is why I now get so cold.  I stayed cold last night till I went to bed and snuggled up to a heating pad.

I have never been able to tolerate cold as many seem too, but, I went on these thinners about a month or two ago when I had my aeorta procedure and I cannot tell you, in words that can articulate, how much colder I have been.
I am going to try and get off these things, by diet, if I can.
Blessings

William,
My dad eats cayenne pepper pills by the handful for blood thinners. He is diabetic and controls that with his diet. He makes them himself, fills up the little gelatin capsules with cayenne pepper, he says it works to keep his blood thin. Might be worth checking out.

"Wuss" ? Ask her to set a few traps for ya. ;D or find a better way to warm you up. Just kidding of course.
I fell through the ice on Perch Lake one time and thought I was a gonner for sure. Now I don't go ice fishing anymore. It would take too long to chop a hole in the ice for the boat.

A coffee cup full of hot buttered run usually warms one up.  In those rare cases when it does not, the imbiber seems not care that he is cold.   ;D
