Close to a 30-30. Still a popular caliber in the NE. Every little gun shop around me has 20-30 boxes of ammo. Hornady makes the hottest loads.

a 32 special is pretty much a 30-30 case with a .321 diameter bullet....same velocity and bullet shape(FN) as the 30-30. Most factory loads are 170 grs. You have a good rifle....scope it and you can kill deer up to 200 yds

;) ;) It has about all been said about the 32. My cousin had a long barreled Marlin. Killed deer with it for years. Mine is a 94. Don't handload, but have all the stuff. Bought 5 boxes of factory ammo, that will more than likely last me out. I seldom shot it due to open sights. Last used it on a mt. lion. even for those I prefer a scoped rifle. So the Marlin .30-30 gets the nod. That is the only reason.   ;)

You can use .30-30 brass if you can't find .32 Winchester brass.  There is an excellent article on it in the August 2009 issue of Shooting Times.  I wish Marlin would produce another run of them to go with the new Hornady ammo.

I have a 336 in 32 Win Special and it just loves the Hornady LE ammo. Super accurate and drops deer in their tracks.
You will enjoy that rifle.

I now have 2 .32 Winchester Special Marlin 336s.  One is a 336A and one is a 336SC.

Here's a good article.
