Garmin Venture HC
« on: October 20, 2009, 03:02:58 PM »
I bought a Garmin Venture HC GPS yesterday. It's bundled with Garmin topo USA software and is on sale at Dick's Sporting Goods for $149.99. It seems to pick up satellites very well and is quick to initialize. It's compact (about the size of a double thick closed flip phone) and the ergonomics seem pretty good. You can't use a memory card with this GPS but for some reason the maunual shows a card slot and has instructions how to use a micro card.

The eTrex HC series which includes the a few other models.  As an old Legend user I love how the eTrex units fit in the hand.  Use it a while and you will be able to do all functions right or left hand.

Sounds like you got a good buy.
There is a learning process to effectively using a gps.  Do not throw your compass and map away!
