Rimfire shotshell?
« on: October 20, 2009, 03:08:27 PM »
I was going through some items my late uncle had and came across a cartridge i have no idea what it is. It is a paper rimfire cartridge, 1-1/2" long and 5/16" in diameter. There is a "W" headstamp and a cardboard plug in the other end. I'm assuming it's some type of shotshell but no clue what gun fires it.

It probably goes to a Winchester Model 36. It was manufactured from 1920 - 1926 with a little over 20,000 made. It is nothing more than a Winchester Model 1902 single shot with a 9mm smothbore barrel on it. I really don't know if anything else shot the same round. Dad had a 36 he used to shoot snakes and rabbits with. He traded it off in the 70's.

Some where around here I have one or two cartridges like that but as I recall mine are not rimfire but center fire like any other shotshell or at least that's how I remember it tho I've not seen them in a good long while. I should round them up and check that out. I'm pretty sure they are just a 9mm shotshell in my case. I Have no clue how one would go about loading them but I've always thought it would make a nice round for a revolver for snake killing.

Never seen many CF 9 mm cartridges (shotshell for you) only as photo below!
As you can see they are stamped "WS" for Walking Stick cartridge.

btw, I do not think you can reload rim fire cartridges either.
