Better way to deploy disposable hand warmers
« on: October 21, 2009, 07:00:37 AM »
Put a disposable handwarmer in the breast pocket of your wool shirt, under vest and jacket layers.  Keep your core warm and the rest of your body will stay warm longer.  Unzip or strip off a layer when you get too hot.
Cordially,

Yep and they work well in a sleeping bag also!

Excellent !
I have placed the in the pants pocket, theory being it warms the blood passing through the femoral artery .
Tested this with one side, then the other, will bring back a cold foot to nice and toasty.
Feet do OK when walking, when sitting on stand for a while you can feel the toes giving up their heat.
Hope this helps. :)

John-E-Warmer used to make a belt that went around you at kidney height with pockets for the warmers right at your kidneys. They claimed chills start there. Don't know where they start, but the belts will make you sweat like the dickens!

I put 'em in my socks before I climb into my sleeping bag fer the night.  If it's really cold I'll wear a wool cap to bed and stuff one in there too.

Also if the hand warmer is rated to last 8 hours and you only use it for 3 or 4 if you put it in a plastic sandwich bag and squeeze out the air it will stop working and when you need it again you will have the remaining time when you re open the bag.

I use the adhesive backed body warmers to place on my t-shirt bottom layer over my kidneys.  I can go longer without peeing.  When the cold gets to your kidneys it sorta activates them to work more often.

Thanks, Dinny

I'll have to try the pants pocket thing. I always seem to lose my feet first when it's cold out.
