hunting in a era, wella, Texas
« on: October 21, 2009, 07:53:10 AM »
I just recieved an e mail from a ranch in the RST(republic of south Texas)
could hardly believe it. These folks have 25+ exotic animals Audad for $5,000.00
plus Greater Kudu for $12,000.00 Plus and so on. I know airfare is high But.
Is it less expensive to hunt in Africa or "Texas"  ;D ::)

Texas is good for men and dogs, but it is hell on women and horses.

If you want to hunt African animals it's definitely cheaper to go to Africa. Heck I can do a 10 day package with 4- 5 animals and airfare for what they want for a B&C 170 whitetail on most ranches in Texas.

this email had a list of prices, can't remember all but whitetail $1,500.00 basic 135 class above that $300.00 per inch. The prices were crazy IMHO

Be careful in what you assume is less expensive in RSA. There are very few natural species in the southern half of the country. Primarily the area called the "Eastern Cape" There are over 30 big game species on most of these ranches but there may be only 5-6 that are there as God intended. The remainder have been stocked and raised to be shot. This area is dirt cheap to hunt, but it's not really hunting for the animals as they would live in Nature. Flying all the way to Africa to hunt these animals the same as you would hunt them in Texas. Stocked and farm raised game!

The hunts for these same species where they are actually natural and wild usually cost anywhere from  20% to 50% more. But then your actually hunting game that lives wild and has a home range, breeding patterns, and a completely natural existence.  To me there is no question on the right decision here. But then I would not fly to Florida to hunt Moose, dall sheep, antelope, caribou etc. I find it necessary to hunt wild natural game when big game hunting for trophies. I have no problem culling or hunting introduced game for the fun of shooting. Like Pheasants chuckers and wild hogs. Each type of hunt has it's place.
