Well, things are falling into place for me as I prepare for openning day of rifle season. I got my 444 back with newly installed Marble rear sight. Thanks to a top notch gentleman named Van.

In a little bit, Ill be sighting it in and doing some practice. Ill have it sighted in at 1 inch high at 100, because long shots are not likely behind the house.
I have been doing some scouting and have a game plan in place. Other hunters will be driving the elk further in to the back country with no roads. Areas to pass through first ridge to deeper areas are only a few. Corridors are very narrow, sometimes only a few feet across. Ambush city! First time hunting this area so we'll see.
I butchered my Antelope and found something that changes my outlook on my results.

Low and back on the shoulder blade was my first bullet fired at the critter. Apparently I never missed. Bullet, 150 gr ballistic tip was stopped cold in a thin soft shoulder of a young Antelope.

There was no eviddence of entry and just a small wound channel. I think I will stick with Hornady from this point on.
Yesterday, I put a Marlin Golden M39A on lay away. I have been coveting one for some time and soon it will join my other Marlins. I was originally thinking of getting a 223, but after researching ammo prices for the once inexpensive 223 cartridge made me change my mind. I think I'll just buy accelerators for my 30-06 to do my varmint shooting.
I have a lot of work to do, so you'all have a fine day.
