VMU 6N
« on: October 21, 2009, 04:41:32 PM »
Anybody out there know why 6N is antlered deer only? Been hunting up there eight years now and have only taken two bucks, but the amount of does is just incredible. The antlered deer only thing makes no sense to me.

I agree. I have hunted in Osceola for about 5 years now and see as many doe as I do anywhere else.

Same here I hunt near Barnes Corners and can barely get a buck near me but always get a doe on last years tag.I feel that will change here pretty quick look at the areas that you can get a dmp for and 6n is surrounded by them.I would like to hunt up there with my muzzle loader but I want to hunt where I can take a buck and a doe.

Machinist the very first year we hunted up there during the early ML season you could take a doe, the next year it was buck only for ML also.Neither of the farms we hunt up there are active farms so there aren't even any nuisance permits.I still enjoy hunting up there but it's very frustrating when you are sitting on a green field in the late afternoon and half a dozen doe come out and you can't put any meat in the freezer.

Yeah from home it's about a three hour drive to our camp, But I love it up there. I'm heading back up next thursday after the kid gets out of school so we can do some rifle hunting.

Thanks and good hunting to you also! It'll be good just to spend some time with my kid, been kind of lacking since I went on second shift. Were both looking forward to it.

So 6n was a success, my son got his first buck, a spike horn on 10/30 quarting to him at about 65 yards. he shot it just in front of the left shoulder with his Stevens 200 308 win and piled it right there. The next evening sitting on the same clover field I shot a 3 point at 160 yards, with my H&R 308 ultra varmint. It ran about 20 yards and piled up. Another buddy took a 4 point. and another guy had a basket rack spike horn walk up and give him a 30 yard broadside shot and the trigger in remington muzzle loader wouldn't work. So ultimately it was a pretty successful trip.
