cylinder binding??

I have a FA83 Prm. 475L... I have had if for a couple years now and it has  started binding the cylinder when the  base pin retention screw is turned down tight.

Is the base pin screw suppose to contact the barrel in the recess or is is suppose to bottom out in the threads in the basepin itself and not make contact with the barrel ??


I have never noticed the binding before... but now any contact between the screw and the barrel causes binding, as the cylinder is turned it will rotate smoothly for a few clicks and then gets real tight for a couple clicks. :-\

The base pin retention screw screws into the barrel. If the gun is completely clean, call the factory to discuss your problem. If not, clean it and see what happens.

The cylinder axis pin screw doesn't need to be real tight, just snug.  If it bottoms out in the barrel it will cause binding of the cylinder.  If when snug it still causes binding just file or lap a little off the end of the screw and it will be fine.

THANK YOU Bob!!... that was my belief... I thought that the threads in the base pin or the retention screw had worn to allow the screw to bottom out into the barrel indent too far..  My Elk/Wolf season starts Sunday so she wasn't headed your way any time soon :D... I just used some locktite on the screw and didn't tighten it down all the way and she works great... I will file a little off the screw...
