What ring mounts model 14?
« on: October 22, 2009, 02:01:24 PM »
What ring mounts can i put on a model 14 wsm that wont over hang the opening? Someone convinced me to use the leupold single base and I hated it, then convinced me to use the 2 piece base which still overhangs. I have never cared for leupould and this only frustraits me more. I would like to use a quality weaver type but not sure if I will run into the same problem. Any suggestions?
What did you do today...for Freedom?
Today, at the front, he died...Today, what did you do? Next time you see a list of dead and wounded, ask yourself: "What have I done for freedom? What can I do tomorrow that will save the lives of men like this and help them win the war?"
Taken from WWII poster, still applies today.

Weaver bases and Burris medium signature Z rings, I have them on a Savage 10 with a 4-12 AO Swift scope (40MM), they do not overhang the opening for the action.  Larry

I like Warne rings and Weaver or Picatinny bases.  I put a Nikon on my Savage 110 30-06 and there wasn't enough mounting area on the scope for the long action, so I went with a 1 piece weaver base.  I like it much better.  The scope has not lost it's zero and everything seems much more solid.  I can see how a 1 piece would be a problem with the WSM family, but you should be able to get 2 piece weaver bases that would work just fine.  I'd go with Warne or like Larry mentioned, Burris rings.
