D@&& my luck !!!!!!
« on: October 13, 2003, 02:20:08 PM »
I went hunting this afternoon. about 5:45 I saw a little 6 pt buck start his way to me from a corn Fields. he was checking a scrape line. he slowly made his way to with in 20 yards of me and stooped. he looked around for 10 mints. than a young doe came running to him. he jumped at her to Chase her away . she ended up standing about 2 feet from the tree base. then he started to walk closer to me and got to about 10 yards and stopped giving me a side shot. I could have not asked for any better. I drew  my bow and and just as i let the arrow go the buck put his head down and the arrow deflected of his antlers and hit just under him. The deer jumped and ran about 5 feet stopped and looked around. then he just walked off like nothing happened. A few mints latter I saw the same buck going down the bottom about 60 yards away from me just walking around.

I could have taken him when he was at 20 yards from me but knew he would be coming closer so i decide to Waite for a better shot and the doe would have been to easy. nether deer know i was there that was the longest 30 mints i have spent in a looooooong time

Those are the kind of experiences that make me cherish hunting; a test of skill and the knowledge that you were a predator in their midst without their knowledge, gaining insight into their personalities and behavior. It doesn't take a trophy buck or some expensive guided hunt to evoke the memorable hunting moments. Sometimes the little spike or the wise old doe or just plain happenstance can create the experience of a lifetime.

Hope you get another shot at that 6-point, either this year or some other! 8)
There is no more humbling experience for man than to be fully immersed in nature's artistry.

I would have to agree with you this is what hunting is really about. the memory some good and some not so good
From this same tree with in a week I have gotten both good and bad
the good one was what was written above and the bad was when I had a doe in almost the same spot shot her with a 125 gr mechanical brad head  the arrow never went trough her and stayed in  so i never could fine her even though i looked for 2 days no blood or arrow.

With every hunt i learn a little something .

That's bowhunting.  Sorry about the bad luck.  Sometimes I'll take a little longer shot (20-35 yards) rather than wait on the closer shot because less chance of the deer getting my scent, picking up movement, or jumping the string and causing a miss.  Just something to think about, if you are confident at those distances.  If not, then by all means let them get closer.
Keep the wind in your face and the sun at your back.

I could have taken the buck at 30 yards with no troubles. but I could not get a clear shot at that distance.
