Beretta Double rilfe questions

Bought this over the internet and just picked it up from my dealer.  It was sold as a Beretta Double rifle in 45-70, but I don't think it is that.  It might have been rechambered, or if this is an origional caliber or what is going on.

Don't really know if it is a Beretta, cannot find any markings that say Beretta, and the caliber stamped on the side is 45.70 Elko mag, which I suspect to be on the order of a 45-90 or 45-100.  Barrels and receiver match on the s/n's.  X14xxx and a 7220.75 on the other flat on the receiver.  A half-moon projection in front of the barrels (protect the barrel crowns?)

Any information on this would be greatly appreciated.

Who is the importer?  That might be on the top of the barrel or on the bottom of the receiver.

Did a chamber cast and looks like the 45-70 Elko mag is the 45-100 Sharps

Got info elsewhere that a company named Elko Arms did conversions of Beretta shotguns, to double rifle configuration.

Glad you found some information.  There is a Elko, NV and I believe there is a gun manufacturer may be they know about the gun.

Look very carefully at the breach end of the barrel and see it you cannot find where the barrel has been fitted with silvered in inserts for the rifle barrels.  Larry

If it was a conversion, which I am almost to the point in believing it is not, it was very well done.  The shotgun barrels would have been pulled out of the monoblock and the rifle barrels inserted.

The caliber is a standard european caliber and I have the dimensions of the case.  It looks identical, within maybe a few thou, of the 45-100 Sharps.  Guess I will order some cases from Buffalo arms and see how it performs

  Many of them are glued in with Loc-tite, not soldered, just like Beretta does many of their bbls.

Just from looking at your pictures, it appears there are some stampings barely visable in the top one in front of the clearly hand stamped new chambering stamps.  If they were new barrels then there would have been no old stampings on them.  Look very carefully for signs of a conversion.  Larry

I don't have any idea about the manufacturer, but the "half moon" projection you mention is most likely the barrels regulation wedge.
