Mythbusters strike again
« on: October 24, 2009, 08:03:36 PM »
A cannon barrel made entirely from duct tape..... a LOT of duct tape.  Supposedly 8 1/2 pound ball (or maybe it was 18 1/2 pounds)  in front of 4 12ga shotshells full of blackpowder (they didn't mention the granulation).  It worked.  Definitely NOT minimum one caliber wall thickness though.  Think I'll have to pass on making one for myself.

I suppose a duct tape barrel would be safer than a cast iron garden ornament or water pipe.

I attribute this show to the heavy use of drugs in the lives of the co-stars......

we have all seen the "this is your brain" anti-drug adds.......

Well this would seem to be this is your brain on duct tape........ Just because you can do something doesn't mean it should be done,

I wonder when they will decide it would be a good idea to cast and fire a cannon made out of glass?

the one thing I envisioned in the first shot showing the cannon is if it had failed the wimpy lexan protection they are all standing behind getting hit

and everyone being flattened as it fell over on them.

When the barrel bursts, what kind of tape do you repair it with?

I found the next jackass, duck tape and chicken wire. Natural selection in action.

Any idea of what they used for a projectile in the duct tape "cannon?"

They did test the theory that a bullet dropped and a bullet fired would hit the ground at the same time and proved that the law of gravity still works. The real stupid one was were they were trying to find out if a shotgun would really blow up if the barrel was plugged, they couldn't get one to blow up with the plugged barrel: IDIOTS were using semi auto shotguns.

And I would have thought it would read "POLICE LINE DO NOT CROSS"

In California, POLICE BOMB SQUAD tape might be around it if you lit off a firecracker in the thing  :o
