just a flat paint color will work.
As a lot of preditor hunting is done at dusk and night i would paint the face of the recoil pad a day glow color. Light green, yellow, or white. something that is lite in color and you will see, but that the animals will not when you are shouldering the gun. Some color or word on the butt that you can see or read. Write rifle on the buttstock where you put your face. Don't laugh it has saved a few rifles from being tripped over.
if you set the rifle down and it blends into the the ground and you walk away from the gun to pee, get a water, change battereis, or what have you..... you may spend more time looking for the rifle than hunting.
I have a cousin that camo'd up a 10/22 and leaned it up against a tree while tree rat hunting and has not been able to find it since.
that was in 1990 or so.
