cylinder binding on #83
« on: October 26, 2009, 12:58:04 PM »
my revolver works fine except when loading and unloading the cylinder is binding, i think on the hand ?  even with set screw removed  from base pin,i dissasembled the grip frame and trigger group and the cylinder spins freely. i looked for broken or worn parts , none found! .  one other thing when you cock the hammer to the first postion it stays back farther than my other 83s the hammer doesent come back to almost touch the frame as on my 2 others pistols.  thanks bob

Hi bobthenailer!
Looks like a service trip to the FA factory. I personally would shelve the firearm until it is "re-conditioned" at the factory. Like a fine swiss watch...could do more harm than good trouble-shooting it at home. BTW how many rounds do you think have been fired from your 83? I've only heard of cylinder binding once before. BUt that was from excess carbon buildup. I think from the type of ammo. Have you tried other types of loads or manufacturers of ammo??? The hammer has me a bit worried though as you stated... that's why I would at least suggest a call to the factory.
