Brothers new 30-30 dropped one tonight
« on: October 26, 2009, 03:50:38 PM »
The 30-30 I gave my brother for his birthday dropped a six pointer at the farm tonight.  LeverEvolution through the shoulder at 207 yards (range findered by me after the shot). Knocked it down, got up went  15 yards and layed down to die. I'm sure this will shock everyone who sees the 30-30 as a 100 yard gun.
If he's carrying a singleshot, don't expect a warning shot!

What ammo ..bullet weight ..??...bullet recovered..???

I'm not shocked a bit..the bullets made for the 30-30 works great at 30-30 vel.  they have been around for along time and the bullet manufactures have got it down pat !

160 gr LeverEvolution by Hornady. Haven't had time to work up a handload for him so I gave him a box with the rifle.

Not a fan of them either. But they do work.

Cool Kev!   ;D

I was impressed with the factory 30-30 LE ammo myself.  I Killed a small buck with it outa my Marlin 30TK (short barrel, 16.5 inches?) last year.  A good wound channel.

I haven't made meat with the .30-30 LEs yet, but I got last year's buck with a .45-70 Handi and a 325 gr. LE with a one shot bang flop at 220 yards.  I was and still am impressed with the LeverEvolutions.  Perhap this year I'll get to try it with the .30-30.
