Topper 158
« on: October 27, 2009, 05:34:07 AM »
Hi All,

I am glad to find this site!

Around six months ago I was given a Topper 158 12 gauge with a modified choke made in 1970. It was being thrown out, had lots of surface rust and missing both stocks. I took it home and forgot about it. The other day I read a thread on a different forum about Toppers that peaked my interest in H&R firearms, did a bunch of Googling and found this forum. Well this weekend I ordered stock blanks, a H&R butt plate, and all the hardware need to fix up my Topper. I also spent some quality time with some Rem Lube and 0000 steel wool removing the rust on the barrel and receiver. It is looking good! Now I must be patient and wait for the stock blanks.

Welcome Colt!
Perfect time to shorten the barrel to 20", add some sights or a scope mount and make her into a nice deer blaster! ;)

Mag,

Cutting the barrel down and adding a pistol grip to this H&R was my first thought. Mostly just for fun. Now after reading through this forum I think I will buy a 20ga. barrel for bird hunting and keep the 12ga. for skeet/trap. I am still waiting for the stock blank to arrive in the mail so I have not shot it yet. I am hoping I can shoot it on Sunday. The stock will not be finished but I should have it ruffed in and fitted by then.
