Searching for comfortable grips
« on: October 14, 2003, 11:19:24 AM »
Ok TC shooters, I need some advice on where to get comfortable shooting grips for my contenders.  I have the standard T/C competition grip which looks nice, but it’s big, bulky, and can be slippery to hang on to when I shoot.  My gun seems to twist easily because the grip doesn’t fit my hand well.  The Pachmayer decelerator fits well in my hand and feels good, but sure is ugly with my wood forend and black barrels.  I like the looks of the wooden forend vs Pachmayers forend on my black barrels.

Does anyone know of a grip out there that fits well like the Pachmayer, and also looks good like a wooden grip?

Control is everything for accuracy, but I want something that looks good too.  Thanks for the help.

Billjoe,
I have been shooting NRA Hunter Pistol for about 10 years with a TC with a competion grip. I have medium sized hands and had the same problem
you are having.
My solution was to cut the Competion grip down to fit my hands and refinish both the fore end and grip with a tru-oil finish. Not only does the grip fit, the set is beautiful.
I tried pachmyer, but they suck for looks.
I have photos.

The grips in the photo are the ones I use on several of my small caliber Contenders. I use the Pachmyar on my 45-70, 309JDJ and 375JDJ.
This grips by Jim are great.

My Gripper grip is nice to handle and without a doubt gives me the most comfortable hold and the most accurate shot placement.  If I could find a better fitting wood grip though, I think my shott placement would imrove.  I use the Grippers when I deer hunt for that reason.  I like the idea of wood because of the beauty it offers.

Tdot- I'd like to see your pictures of the T/C grip.
Hawkeye- who is Jim?  I sure like your setup.

Thanks all for the ideas.
