I don't smoke, but I do enjoy the "Cigar Dave" syndicated radio talk show. I assume he has a web site, and there may be advice on good cigars there. He's out of Tampa and does a lot to promote the industry. If you can ever get the show, give it a listen. It's very good mens' entertainment.

I don't know where you live but if it is in Houston there are a couple of stores in Deer Park and Webster that roll some that are very good.

oh, i forgot about cigar dave, thanks !
i live in michigan , by me there is this place called oppenheimers, they carry wine and cigars.
last week i picked up some cigars called a taste of havana, they are cuban rounds, nicaraguan tobacco. the wrapper is nearly black and man oh man are they rich. middle of the road for price at $3.50 for a churchill
around here a blunt is dope, weed. they take apart a cheap cigarillo and refill it with pot. im not into that.
i do like a good crisp burning davidoff ,toro length maduro though.

The terminology is a hoot. Make mine a Fumo Negro Fuego Grande, or a Romeo y Julieta Peste Grajo with a 16 ring gauge. (Hope that makes sense).  ;)

When I was a teen I experimented with various tobacco products. Some notables were Sherbidi cigarettes made with cheap tobacco wrapped in a leaf. They smelled like a burning golf course. Then there were Sherman Fantasia cigarettes. The first time I saw one I thought it was somebody smoking a pencil. They were about 9 inches long and came in multiple festive colors. Then there were the horrifically strong Balkan Sobranies, which were cool because they were wrapped in black paper and had a gold filter tip.

Scibaer, if you're looking for a middle of the road price maduro; I would recommend Onyx.  It's medium bodied too.  I would also recommend the maduro's offered by Hoyo de Monterey.  Those may run $5 a stick, but are also very good.

I'm going to have to go to the humidor and make a selection for this evening.

I do.
Try the Rockey Patel Maduro Edge.
Should be about a $6-8.
Ashton Maduro are by size do the churchill is either a #50 or 60.
the other is a double Corona.  $10-15 a stick
Both are great smokes.
How strong of a smoke do you want?
There are the Aturo Fuente cigars the black label sun grown have made me have to pull over and grap a Mc Burger and get something in me other wise it was a little too strong and I was going to get sick on an empty stomach.
where are you?  The best shop I have found is just 1/2 mile south of the Bass Pro Shop in Ontario, CA.  C alled David's Gifts and Tabaco.
Great shop, huge selection, better prices.

I was never really a big cigar smoker, once in a while.  On a Canadian fishing trip, (BEFORE 9-11)  I bought a dozen top Cuban Cigars, and brought them home in my tackle box.  Guy at work was a real cigar lover / expert.  He handed me a cigar, and said it was about the best you could get, from Panama.  Grown from Cuban seeds. I thanked him, smiled, and pulled a Cuban out of my gear bag and handed it to him.  Told him that IT was one of the best you could get.  Should have seen the look on his face when he seen the Cuban label....:)  Honestly, I really could not tell the difference, but everyone enjoyed em at the hunting camp that year.

I can not tell the New Cuban cigars from middle of the road Dominican or Honduran.
I was able to get some of the Cuban Leaf that was in a ware house in New Orleans from 1959 and was rolled into cigars.
They were good.
But at $15-20 a stick there are a lot better cigars out there for those prices.  And I would rather have two good Ashtons or a Royal Crown than one COMMIE stick.  the only good thing about the Cuban Cigars is you have to burn them.   :D
But they don't taste any better.

as you can see, there is a particular brand that I like

but I also like Punch, Hoyo, Padron...

For many years I thought Rocky Patel was hype, just a name, until I smoked one. It is a first rate stick

For a cigar, the timing has to be right....off of work, special surroundings (like deer camp after the hunt and it won't be long my friends  ;D) or out in the boat with the kids
Though taken from established manufacturers' sources and presumed to be safe please do not use any load that I have posted. Please reference Hogdon, Lyman, Speer and others as a source of data for your own use.

I like the Perdomo Habano Maduro about $7-8 w/shiping
I like most all the cigars from Nicaragua and Honduras, may not be able to spellum but i do like their cigars.
Just found cigarbid.com, seems to be good deal
Have bought some from Cigar International and Mikes.
When i was in Dominican Republic i strolled into the cigar shop at the hotel knowing i was going to find some good deals
the same cigars that cost $8-$10-$12 here in Texas were $15-$20 there told the guy i could buy the same cigar for less in Texas he
smiled and said"but senior you are not in Texas" I told him i would be in 5 days and at those prices i could wait.
I did find a guy that knew a guy that thought he could find some cigars, and he found some good ones with a picture of a humming bird
on the band wish i had bought more. Their is a place in Miami called Cuban Crafters they are good also.

A blunt is a cigar which is wider than a cigarillo and not quite as wide as a Corona. These cigars typically consist of two main parts; the inner leaf, which is similar to a cigarette rolling paper, except it is made of tobacco, and a thicker outer leaf which is rolled around the inner leaf in a spiral. In most commercially available blunts, the "leaves" are not actual tobacco leaves but rather paper made from tobacco pulp.

Blunts originally got their name from their 'broad or rounded tip', and were named as such in the 1800s to differentiate them from other cigars with a tapered, pointed tip. [1]. Blunts are a specific size cigar that have been so popular as to have been once sold in specific vending machines [2]. The original blunt cigar was manufactured in Philadelphia out of a single leaf outer tobacco wrapper. At the time this was the only cigar wrapped in one continuous leaf, other cigars used pieces of leaves for their outer wrapper. Tobacco leaves naturally taper at the ends. Since this cigar was rolled in one leaf the end would taper and had a round appearance (thus leading to the Blunt name). Due to the popularity of this style of cigar many other Blunts were launched into the marketplace. Older Brands of blunts include:

Phillies, Dutch Masters, White Owl, El Producto, Swisher Sweets, Optimo, El Rey, Arturo Fuente, Romeo Y Julietta, John T's, Flor de Dominicana, Tampa Nugget, Don Rex, Don Tomas, Don Lino, Garcia Y Vega and Games.[3]

They are too....  ;)

Nothing beats a good cigar when you are playing golf or poker. I have seemed to prefer the Dominican cigars.

For my 40th birthday a friend of mine gave me a Gurkha Grand Reserve which was apparently dipped in some kind of expensive fire water of somekind. That was the best cigar I have ever had. I have no idea where he found it and I havent found any more but I still keep my eye out for them.

Most time I just chew away on a swisher out playing golf.

It's been 12 years since I had one, but a panatella was my favorite. Not expensive, but the Garcia Y Vega, brown were my No. 1 choice. After I chewed on it for a short time and moistened the end, it seemed to mellow out the flavor. I still have an urge when I smell one. But, strenght be with me, I'll resist. gypsyman

I get a taste for one on occassion. I really like Arturo Fuentes. I'm not even sure of the size or model. They are not thin, kind of short and come wrapped in cedar.

I like a larger ring size but a shorter cigar. I like them but I don't have two hours to smoke one.

i see a few names repeated a few times. i may have to see if the local shop carries them.

yeah the new cubans seems to be about the same quality now as the hondurans, i dunno if they got better or the cubans has slipped a bit because of economics.  yeah, enjoying a good cigar is a matter of timing if nothing else.  about this time of year, sitting by the fire pit, ice cold bottle of guiness, bowl of venison chilli.. dog gone-it thats the best time.

one thing i do notice, how you light your stick matters. i hate those little butane lighters, they taint the taste to me. i like the wood match and draw the flame to the tobacco with a few strong puffs.

as far as size , its a matter of time. the more time the larger the cigar.
today, im sure stopping by the shop and seeing what they have..  ;D

the Gurkha Grand Reserve is not hard to find, there are in all the better cigar
web sites about $20-$22 a stick but if you can be happy with a swisher, why bother ;D

I have heard a lot about size and make
I have an opinion as i am sure some of you do.
1st real cigars are made with tobaco
2nd real cigars start a 52, ring size anything smaller borders on a cigarrette
54 to 60 ring size is better.
Like i said this is only my opinion
what is yours
not trying hijack anything

I used to smoke 1-2 cigars per day.   my favorites were Jose Benito Habanitos.    Can't get them any more though, besides I quit tobacco 4 yrs ago when my wife gave up cigs.   My all time favorite cigar had to be the superbly famous Partagas 150.    Smoothest smoke I ever had and it was a big cigar.     Don't know if anyone still sells these but last time I checked about 4 yrs ago they were going for about $40 a stick.

Matt,
Thanks for the history and discription.
Tabacco Paper is still not a hand rolled leaf cigar.
much like an EL CAMINO is not a pick up truck.
Yes it looks almost like a cigar  but it's just not right.

a agree with you Rex.
i would add that the capa needs to be a maduro or darker and of no smaller then a toro
but if i find something small and lighter then i'll try it
