FWB 124
« on: October 28, 2009, 08:59:19 AM »
Hello everyone,
I have a FWB 124 that I got for free a few years ago. It's in great shape and shoots very well, 1/2" at 18yds. I know that someday soon I will need to get it tuned or,at least, checked-out.  Any suggestions of who may still be working on these old rifles.

Thanks, Dinny

I'm a little new to air rifles and their works, but here is a link I found that might be helpful.

This guy will replace the spring, piston and seal. Cost is about $130. Velocity will increase because of the new spring. Because of a better fit, vibration will decrease and accuracy probably improve. - DON

Here's another link I found and it looks like they sell parts for your gun, so maybe if you are a tinkerer you could get the parts and do it yourself.

Not hardly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The FWB 124 is the finest spring piston sporting rifle EVER MADE; BAR NONE!!!!!!
While its power is not up to the more modern canons that one can buy, it is still the best piston rifle I ever owned, and I had them all, well none of the cheap stuff, no Gamo's or crapos' or such!  But of all the rifles Beeman sold that was the best, and if you don't want to spend a hundred bucks on it just ship it to me.  As I will gladly pay the shipping.

Jim,
I was hoping to relay a sarcastic message when I posted that reply. ;) I have a friend who has owned the same FWB 124 for nearly 30 years.  I shot his several years ago and have been looking for one of my own ever since. I passed up one a couple years ago for $250.  I was upset at myself until I found this one in Germany.  I have a friend who was a company commander in Mannheim.  He had to empty all the personally owned weapons out of his armory before turning it over to the Germans.  I helped him legally ship all the firearms back to the States (16 of them) and in exchange I got the FWB. He paid $400 for all the firearms, some were Italian O/U shotguns. :o

To say the least, I was happy with the deal.  ;)

Thanks, Dinny

Maybe so, but it is NOT a lot to spend on an FWB 124 in good condition.  Its a freakin' bargain.

While I wouldn't go so far as to say that rifle once touted as having the "world's longest mainspring" is the best air rifle Beeman ever imported, it was, without a doubt, the "bee's knees" back in the day.  When the world was young with the dew still upon it, the FWB 124/127 was the air rifle that those of us attracted to the adult airgun hobby aspired to own.  In my case, it was the rifle that I was saving my simoleans for when I decided that adult airgun shooting was for me.  Well, by the time I had the simoleans together, Beeman had moved on.  They had moved on to the mighty R-1, so that is what I wound up with.  If they'd have come out with the R-9 first, I'd have never seen the need to part with it.  That said, the FWB 124 in well-sorted condition can still "git 'er done" and if I had one, I wouldn't hesitate to spend many times over the price of $130.00 to get it in well-sorted condition.  It is the Model 98 Mauser of or Winchester 52 of the airgun universe.  In other words, it is a classic that will never go out of style, as long as people care about such things as aesthetics, engineering, quaility, and performance.
