He may weight 1,300 pounds but he does carry it well
« on: October 28, 2009, 05:15:02 PM »
I just read about a guy who was the heaviest man in the world, at just shy of 1,300 pounds. He's Italian. He did lose about 550 pounds by going on a low carb diet. That is some serious bigness.

I don't want to be within blocks of the bathroom he uses---maybe not on the same sewer line. :)

It's very unfortunate. I feel sorry for people with this compulsive eating problem. Fortunately it is rare.

Exactly!!
When I was a kid it was rare to see a fat kid. If you were fat you got teased about being a fat kid. Today its nothing to see bunches of fat kids walking around. Its almost like its the norm. Guess what fat kids grow up to be? That's right, fat adults.
I get tired of the excuses tossed around for fat people. They can't help it, they have fat genes. Or its hereditary its not their fault. Fat does not jump on people out of the thin air, like some people tend to think. It all comes down to how much food you stuff in your mouth, compared to how much you burn off.

There is a real epidemic of obesity! I hadn't noticed until last summer, when the county historical society asked me to spend a day manning their booth at the county fair. Their display was on county schools of yesteryear, complete with class photos. I was completely dumbfounded to see those photos! Whole graduating classes with nary an obese person. In my HS graduating class (1954), we had one gal (out of 96) that could classify as narrowly obese.
Just take a look..go to..  Google images ..and type in something like "graduating class 1922" and see the class photos...compare with what you see in today's neighborhoods.
My brother, a recently retired coach who still coaches college soccer etc. on a part time basis and tours Europe each summer, says we are not alone. Europe has the same problem. He blames it on improper nutrition and too much video games.

Here for instance, is a graduating class of 1957 in Bullitt co. KY, which I just pulled from the internet:
