Hey Lloyd, as I have already stated, waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay cool!
However, for those of us who may not have that much room to spare, an under bench set of receiver tubes is one very good way to go.
This allows for any number of tools to be quickly set into place and/or removed and replaced with another tool.
Wish I could say it is my idea, but even though the idea was picked up from a friend it is still a great way to go.
I have no holes in the top of my bench, the tools, presses etc. can quickly be "put away" if needed, yet it is a matter of minutes to set up anything I need.
If planned ahead, any number of receiver tubes can be installed, allowing the use of mulitiple tools and/or the freedom of changing tool location at a whim.
When I built in the counter/bench in our new digs, I set bolts, through the bench top, in Acraglas resin positioned to match the mounting holes on my receiver tube frame work.
The bench top is a double layer of 3/4" plywood, glued and screwed and securely mounted to the wall with knee braces about every 4' the length of the bench.
STRONG!!!!!!!!!! Sit on it, walk on it, form brass, nothing "walks" or wiggles!
Then the formica was laid over the bench top giving me a great work surface, while the edge of the plywood was faced with finished oak trim.
The frame work for the receiver tubes then bolted under the bench allowing for a nice clean setup.
If I had it to do over would I change anything? Yes, but only to improve the set up, but most certainly NOT to do away with it.
Keep em coming!
