Topper M88 questions
« on: October 29, 2009, 09:07:43 AM »
My girlfriend's Father passed away several years ago and MeMe asked me to take all his guns (all 3 of them) and keep them safe. They have indeed sat in the safe ever since. One of them has piqued my curiosity. It is an H&R "Topper Model 88" .410. It is not old or valuable - it has a plastic trigger guard and the buttstock is a bit loose.

I have a couple of questions:
1. How can I tighten the buttstock?
2. Can I buy 'uppers' for this model in rifle calibers?
3. If so, from where?

Any info would be appreciated. This might be a fun little truck gun if I can get different calibers for it.

Many Thanks

Welcome, the stock bolt can be accessed by removing the butt plate, you'll need a 9/16" socket and a long extension to reach it it. H&R won't fit accessory barrels to any frame made before 1987, the M88 was made prior to 1986 by H&R Inc that went out of business in 1986. You may be able to fit other shotgun barrels to it, but not rifle barrels, none were offered on the M88 that I'm aware of. Numrich sells used barrels, you may find them in the  H&R classifieds here too, barrel fitting info can be found in the FAQs and Help sticky along with the build year info and a ton of other info.
