My results for the 24 October Match
« on: October 29, 2009, 10:11:23 AM »
I promise to bore everyone on this forum since not many people post here.

The October monthly match at the Nampa Rod & Gun club was cold and windy.  A perfect day to stay home and watch football.

The wind was gusting about 20mph from right to left.  I won the Smallbore Hunters Pistol Metallic Sight match with a 26/40.  7 chickens, 10 pigs, 5 turkeys, and 4 rams.  I've done better but not in the wind.

I also won the Hunters Pistol Metallic Sight match with a 23/40.  I shot the same gun with the same ammo (Walmart Special bulk pack Federal through a 10inch contender match barrel with a williams fp sight) that I used with the smallbore match.  I rang only 2 rams.

That will be all til next months match.
You can only hit the target if the barrel is pointed in the right direction when the bullet leaves the barrel.

Are your hunter pistol targets the same size.  22s just using the 1/4" steel vs 3/8" for center fire?  25/40 and 26/40 is good in the wind.  That is better than I can do on my best day!!

Hope you do better in November.  Black targets in the snow maybe?

The targets for Hunter Pistol are 1/2 size NRA targets.  They are set up in meters.  We use the same size targets for the smallbore cowboy rifle and pistol catridge cowboy rifle also.  Yes, and the thin ones are for smallbore and the thick ones for the center fire stuff.

We will not be having any Hunters Pistol matches through the winter at Nampa Rod & Gun Club.  The last match is in October and we start up again in March.  We do have Cowboy Rifle Silhouette all winter, on the first Saturday of each month at Blacks Creek in Boise.  We do a Smallbore Cowboy Rifle match in the morning and either a Pistol Cartridge Match or a Cowboy Rifle match( the full sized targets ) in the afternoon.  This coming Saturday will be the Cowboy Rifle Match in the afternoon.  The weather guesser is saying 49 degrees with 20% chance of rain.  The fireing line is covered.  If you are in the Boise area and want to come shoot, we would be glad to have you.  We are always looking for new blood.

Sixgun,
I went to the club's website but did not see any matches listed for NRA Cowboy Silhouette.
If you know the dates for the upcoming matches please post them. I would like to spread the
word. Hopefully, some new shooters might participate.....

The Cowboy Rifle matches at Blacks Creek  ( http://blackscreekrange.com/club/) are held on the first Saturday of each month.  On the second they will have a 60 round Pistol Cartridge Cowboy Rifle match.  I think it will start around 11am so you need to be there by 930am or 10.

In the colder winter months they have a 60 shot smallbore match in December, a 60 shot Pistol Cartridge match in January, and a 60 shot Cowboy Rifle match in February.  March through November matches are 40 round matches with a smallbore match in the morning and either a pistol cartridge or rifle match in the afternoon.  At the present time they are not doing any pistol silhouette matches at Blacks Creek.  There has been some interest in starting pistol matches and that may happen in the future.
