It was a fun afternoon .
Those little SAMCC barrels do shoot !
If these old eyes were a bit better I would have shown that Kid DD how to shoot  ;)

Now to finish up the carriage .

Powder charge was 40 grains ,  Patched ball.

I was surprised how easy it was to get on target .

Ernie , it looks three times the size of DD's gun .

Nice shooting by the way .

Is Southpaws barrel a Brooks 24 pounder?  If so, it has a 1" bore.  How did that recoil?  I saw a film clip where DD's SAMCC did a back flip off the shooting platform.  Did Southpaws gun recoil off the platform?

Southpaws cannon is a SAMCC cannon closer to the camera lens than he or the the other gun.

He has the no wheel base that Michael sells as an option.

Here is screen grabs showing before and after recoil.

I keep seeing people saying this cannon flips on its back when it is fired.  Watch the video very carefully,  The cannon does not flip on its back when fired.

This was the first shot it ever fired.  I sat the gun in the middle of a wooden platform, thinking that would be fine.  If you watch the video real close you will see the gun almost stops when the rear wheels drop off the back of the platform and the gun then pitches over.

The gun does not flip when it is shot.

I suppose I will have to go shoot the gun with out the breech rope and make some video's so you guys can see for your selves...the sacrifices I make for full disclosure.   ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Though I want to believe you, I think you're going to have to prove it with another test. ;D

Exactly.  Put the gun at the front of the platform.  Or simply replace all the versions of that video with one that is a few frames shorter.  No one will be able to tell it didn't stop at the end of the video.   ;D

You guys are pushing.   I am going to be forced to go to the range and shoot the cannon again just to prove it doesn't....oh the sacrifices I make!    ;D ;D

Yes!  Back to the range with you. The punishment must meet the crime. The very thought of that barrel doing a "double back flip"......in mid air!

No shooting today, summer ended today and its raining.   Glad to see it gone, two weeks of 80 degree weather is excessive.

Our first cold front of the year came in late last week.  Temperatures plummeted to the low 90's.

So...how much lead weight did you add to the bottom of the carriage to keep it from flipping?

Hope you had a good time shooting this to respond to us skeptics!

I notice there is a backup piece at the back of the platform now, even though it wasn't exercised.   ;D

Man, you've got reloading your cannon down to a science, that's what I call fast. :D
RIP John. While on vacation July 4th 2013 in northern Wisconsin, he was ATVing with family and pulled ahead of everyone and took off at break-neck speed without a helmet. He lost control.....hit a tree....and the tree won.  He died instantly.

The one thing that you can almost always rely on research leading to, is more research.

Perfect Powder Charger
« Reply #417 on: September 05, 2010, 05:02:40 PM »
Found this powder charger for a flint lock rifle . Perfect for priming the fuse hole(Vent)  on the SAMCC cannon .  It is a TC accessory and will dispense FFFFG powder by pushing down on vent hole.
Neat !  ;D

There are other makes as well, and most have the same function.  I use a full size brass flask when shooting my small arms, and when priming a larger cannon, if necessary.  I always have one of these priming flasks on me as well, which would definitely work well for these smaller guns.
