H&R 20 guage
« on: November 01, 2009, 05:16:07 AM »
Just got my old shotgun back from my Dad. He gave it to me when I was 12 for christmas. We used it a few times then it was put away for years. I just went and got it today and was curious how to figure out the serial number. I think it is a H&R Pardner but it looks alot like a Topper as well.

Does anyone have any info on this gun? I have been searching google for 3 hours and found nothing.

Serial number is AT288204 if anyone knows how to break it down

See the FAQs and Help sticky in the H&R Rifle forum, there's a build year list to help determine when it was made.... and a LOT more.  ;)

Thanks and will do. I must have missed the sticky some how  ::)

Ok I read through that and figured out it was made in 1979 which is pretty cool. But would you say its a pardner or Topper? Anyway I can tell on the gun? Length of barrel maybe?

Dunno, but I don't think H&R Inc had a Pardner, I'm pretty sure their Topper frames were marked Topper tho. Maybe someone else with more H&R shotgun knowledge can answer that question, I only have one shotgun made by them, H&R Inc went out of business in 1986, H&R 1871 won't fit barrels to your frame, although you can fit a second hand barrel yourself, that's in the FAQs too if you're interested.  ;)

They're two different companies, H&R Inc went out of business in 1986. Although both were in the same factory in Gardner MA, they aren't the same mfr. When Remington bought H&R and Marlin last year, they closed the Gardner plant and moved production to Ilion NY, customer support is in Madison NC.

Well I found out that H&R Inc. never produced the Pardner that was started when H&R 1871 took over so my shotgun is a Topper. Now I just gotta figure out what model. I am guessing the 88 but not for certain. Any ideas?

The model, gauge and chamber length should all be stamped on the barrel.  If I had to guess I would say a model 088.
