A First Year Registered Magnum
« on: November 02, 2009, 01:19:17 AM »
Hello
Back in June I attended the annual Smith & Wesson Collectors Association meeting that was held this year in Troy, Michigan. The Theme of the meeting was The Famous Registered Magnum. We as collectors have a closed Gun show at our meetings that allow other collectors of our association a chance to see and buy some of the really hard to find S&W's and their Parts. I saw more Registered Magnums at that Meeting than I had ever seen in my life.

I walked the floor when I got their on Wednesday and Noticed a First Year Registered Magnum for sale on a  members table. His price was very reasonable but the guns grip frame had been altered so most of the serious collectors were not Interested in it. I kept looking at it as the week whizzed by, and Late Saturday afternoon made my mind up to Purchase it. There was a few Other's looking hard at it, so I figured if I was ever going to have one I Better step up to the plate.

The Gun came with a Factory letter that stated it was delivered to Bowen Brothers hardware company of Augusta, Georgia on December 03, 1935 with One box of Factory ammo and was sighted in at 25 Yards at Point of aim when it left the factory. It is shown wearing a set of Original Walter Roper custom made grip's from the Mid 1930's as Roper Built all the shooter team Grips back then for the Camp Perry teams, and they were all custom Built for the customer ordering them. It is now getting it's grip frame repaired and soon to come back home. I can't wait to fire this timeless Classic... Hammerdown

Hello mcwoodduck
My .41 Magnum and .44 Magnum Have smooth target grips because of Recoil, But these .357's work fine with the Target grips they have. The Registered is wearing a set of Roper Custom made shooting grips from the 1930's that are the most comfotable grips I have ever had , and the nickel Pre-27 Has it's set of Original Coke Profile Factory grips... I think the N frames look funny with the coke bottle grips.
I have /had a couple K frames with them.  but the N's need more.
