357 barrel on SB1
« on: November 03, 2009, 07:54:10 AM »
I know this has been asked to death and there is plenty of info in the FAQ's, but I need reassurance. I have a chance to get a 357 rifle barrel at a very reasonable price. Right now I don't have a SB2 frame to put it on. Is it ok to use the SB1 frame? Has anybody done that? Results?

Yes it has been done many times. Plus that is the way they came from H&R. I have a .44 on a sb1 with no issues at all. ;)

If it is a good price GRAB IT! Loads of people here want them(myself included)

The current SB1 .357 has a much smaller dia. firing pin than their standard SB1.  I doubt that it matters much.

My .357 Mag is on a 2007 SB1 frame with a large firing pin....no problems, it's a shooter.  My .357 Max is on a SB2 frame.

I use mine on an sb1, and at the first had some primer perforations.  I switched to rifle primers, no more problem.  I shoot max. loads with not sign of pressure, stretching, or damage to the cases or the gun.

The 357 even with max. has mild recoil, is very accurate and along with the 45-70 is my "favorite".

Buy and shoot with confidence.  Enjoy the magic of the 357 barrels.  They  truly are charming!

357 maxie on the new sb1 frame, handles near max loads with ease.  Only reason I didn't shoot the max load is the others shot so well. ;D ;D

Don't listen to these guys, it won't work.  And since you can't use it, give me the name and number of the guy you were buying it from. :D  (just kidding, it works. Enjoy, you'll have a blast with it)

BTW, there a lot of great guys here who are very familiar with the caliber and will help you out on loads if you handload.
