Mini-Mauser in 250-3000
« on: November 04, 2009, 07:25:14 AM »
Would any of the Mini-Mausers handle the 250-3000?

Thanks,
D

I'm sure that it would.  They made them 22-250.

Although all mini-Mauser's aren't created equal, I had a CZ-527 mini-Mauser, and the .250 Savage was too long for both the action and the magazine, when I tried an unfired factory cartridge in it for size, with an eye toward converting it.

No it will not fit. The mini mauser fits the 222 family of cartridges. Any 22-250 Interarms built was based on the full size Mauser action

Remington does make the "mini mauser" in 22/250. It is the model 799. The 798 is the full size action. I'm not sure if it's ( 799 ) long enough for a 250 Savage though.

The Zastava (Interarms-Daly-Remington) small action magazine box for the 22/250 is 2  19/64 (2.297) long.

The 250 Savage is 2.515 in long.

That would be a no go then.  It would have been a nice concept though.  The ulitmate downsized game rifle.   :-\

The 6mm BR case is about 0.4 shorter than the 22-250 or 250 Savage case, at around 1.5+.  That leaves about 3/4 inch for bullet in the Mini Mauser.

All of the OCL for the 22-250 in the loading data I've looked at for 50-55 Gr bullets are longer than 2.297" , I wonder how the people who brought the Daly/Remington Mini-Mauser in 22-250 made them work.

Seems I was wrong. I did a search on Remingtons website. They did indeed make the 799 in 22-250. My apologies to all. Interarms did not tho.

Man, you're going to get me in trouble.  I've been wanting a 7.62x39 on that Mini action with a 22" medium/hvy barrel for some time, and the fact that B&C has a good composite for the action makes it even more desirable.

A number of years ago, after I bought a CZ 527 in .223, I wrote CZ USA and mentioned how I thought they should slightly lengthen the action to take the .250 ( and .300 Savage ). I got a written response back about cost, and marketabiltiy issues. Too bad. It would sort of be a modern Savage model 1920, first of the truly light bolt action rifles.

The mini mausers were quite popular around here and the sudden lack of them mistified.. They are back but still hard to come by here. The 7.62x39 was available in the 527 format from CZ and I've seen and heard from several(all good reports) lacally. The 250 Savage is a fine round. The 99 is a bit heavy for such a light caliber even in the featherweight series. Mine is a takedown and with IMR3031 and a 100 grain Hornaday it shoots amazingly well. You must allow a bit of cooling between shots for best groups but it is a featherweight!! My other 250 is a M54 Winchester in it's early configuration.. At some point in the distant past it was drilled and tapped and Lyman Alaskan (old model) with a post amd wire are on board. I haven't shot it but it would most likely do well also as do most. The failing of all these is weight. Neither rifle has a weight that complements the lovely little caliber. if the 799 is available in 22-250 the 250 will likely fit and that would be, as my old partner used to say a good walking around rifle..

FWIW, I've owned a tang-safety Ruger M77 RSI / International full-stocked rifle chambered to the .250-3000/.250 Savage - and found the size to be just fine.
