Should I give Federal WSSM brass a try?
« on: November 04, 2009, 08:54:17 AM »
I'm looking for some 223 WSSM brass, and as far as I can tell, only Winchester and Federal make component brass.  I've had quite good Federal brass before, and also some quite poor quality stuff, too.  I can get 100 pcs. of Federal for the same money as 50 pieces of Winchester.  If it was you, would you give the Federal brass a try?

I'd buy it! I've not had many problems from Federal brass, but quality has a tendency to fall off sometimes.

I think I'd get a supply of both, may be hard to find someday.

I worked up a 100 pieces of the 223wssm federal brass just last night and didn't have any culls. About two months back I ordered a couple hundred from graff and sons and from what I've seen the federal 223wssm brass is much better than the winchester and half the price. If I was you I'd snatch it up before all thats left is the winchester brass. I had a box of winchester factory loads and better than half the rounds split at the neck or shoulders(this is factory ammo not reloads) !! >:(  So personally I don't want anything to do with the 223wssm winchester brass.    Dave

Thanks for the replies, folks.  I found that a local shop was selling 223 WSSM ammo for only a dollar or two more than the cheapest 30-06 or 270, so I just bought a few boxes.  This will start me reloading a bit later, and then I can buy bare brass (or just more factory stuff) based on how well I like this Winchester stuff.  Thanks!
