« on: November 04, 2009, 02:59:10 PM »
??? H&R says you must return your frame to them to have a new barrel "fitted" to your frame but in the clasifieds I see all kinds of barrels being sold are these people putting on a different barrel holding at arms length turn your head and pray or is H&R only covering there a$$ how safe is this  ???

Read through the Handi FAQ's at the top of the page. Lots of info about barrel fitting. The barrels need to be fitted to the frame, but it is not hard to do if you have a little bit of mechanical ability. Sometimes you get a barrel that fits fine(one of my hornet barrels and ny 204 can swap frames easily), sometimes they need a bit of work. Nothing dangerous if you are doing it properly. Billy

There is info in the FAQ's as to how to fit a barrel. ;)
Alot of times a second hand barrel will fit fine with no work.
If a barrel does need minor fitting it's usually not that difficult.
Truth be told, most of us just don't want to send in a frame and wait on Ilion for a job that can be done in 30 minutes or so. ;)

+1

You should spend a good deal of time reading the Faqs anyway. They are a little difficult to maneuver until you get used to them, but Tim has included everything you want to know and a little more.

Buying used barrels generally saves some money and a lot of time but I've found I save the most by buying the entire gun from someone that got it from someone and just doesn want one.

I found the info in the faq looks fairly simple this seems to be the way to go I am scared to death that I would send in my frame and a Obama gun czar would say you can no longer ship guns and I couldn't get it back this seams to be the way to go thanks for the info guys

Wanna buy a period?

Hope that was meant in jest or.....

Instead of poking jabs at a new member you should try and help him with his question.  (By the way "Wanna" isn't a word.)

Period? Capital letter? Foot, I thought it was pretty funny. He might as well get "accustomed" to it here, (used to). Pretty kind overall.

Welcome ! Fitting your own barrel is pretty simple given that all the info is in the FAQ's and all the help you need is available here for the asking. NEF (or Remington) is simply protecting themselves from the inevitable lawsuits and problems that would arise if they send out unfitted barrels... you know someone would install a barrel with a huge amount of slop, fill the case with Bullseye, blow half their body off and then blame Remington.........  Bottom line is you can do it, give it a try !

the ultra I need to shoot it one more time. Hopefully about 7:30 am on opening morning. ;D If the wind is right that morning I'm gonna hunt in what was the front yard of the house where my dad grew up. Now its a grownup buck haven.

If that's the 12ga ultra slug heavy barrel (10ga barrel with a 12ga hole through it), you won't be fitting a 20ga or any other non-10ga barrel to that frame. Says "SB2" on it, but it came from the factory with the slug barrel, not a rifle barrel, right?

I wish they'd named the 10ga frame something distinctive, instead of giving it the same "SB2" name as the rifle frame.
