My grandson told his young wife each time he deployed..not to watch or listen to the news..just nerve wracking...
He said if anything bad happened to him..she would know before the news media anyway. You will know if your soldier's unit takes casualties, but the "news" normalyl will not get the names before the family.
When my grandson's unit (co size, 4 KIA & some wounded) took casualties in Iraq, my son called a number provided next of kin. They asked my grandson's name..their whole statement was "his name is not on the casualty list". And it wasn't praise God..but immediately I prayed for those who would be shedding tears.
