First thing the wife said when she came home, And they wonder why we profile? Then she started telling me about a problem she is having with a recruit from Yemen. He can not understand what she is telling him, and does not want to accept it because she is a woman. She is also having trouble with another recruit from Saudi, same thing he refuses to accept her decission because she is a woman.
On a more frantic note. I was going on Ft Wainwright this afternoon, returning from the range. Listening to the news reports as I came up to the gate. I had two Muzzleloaders in the back seat. Guard saw the wolf in the crosshairs on my drivers door. She started asking questions, but I could not understand anything she said, since she did not speak English very well. Guards are civilian contract. The guard kept staring at the door, and saying Ft Hood. Then she asked me to roll down the window in the back door. It took a while for me to understand what she wanted. She finally started banging on the rear window, and pointing down. OK, I finally understood what she wanted. She saw the two gun cases, she went ballistic. She started yelling and screaming in Spanish. She did grab her gun, but did not draw it. Her Supervisor came out of the guard shack. The Guard started yelling at her in Spanish then pointing at me. But the Supervisor could not understand what she was saying either. I looked at the supervisor and yelled "I'm, going to the front gate". I hit the throttle and spun the truck around, leaving in a cloud of dust. Hoping I did not get shot in the process.
When I got to the front gate, I drove up and showed my ID. The guard looked at it and said "Thank you Sarge". I then told him about the incident at the back gate. He started laughing, ran to the front of my truck to get the license number, came back laughing. He asked "Are the guns registered on post"? I said "Yes", and showed him my registration card. The Guard started apologizing saying don't worry about it. I told him I was not till she put her hand on her gun, and that got me a bit excited, so I decided to come to the front gate. He started yelling at the other guards, telling them what I had said. They were laughing also.
When I left the post, and got about one mile from the rear gate I realized Sky had left his homework in my truck, so I turned around and went back to the back gate. Same Guard, this time she did not say a word. She took my ID and looked at it. She handed it back to me and nodded, she did not say a thing.
And the military have refused to allow any one to carry concealed on post, whether they have a permit or not. They also do not allow the troops to have guns except when on duty. The troops are not allowed to carry off post either, peroid. So many of the dependent wives have taken the Concealed Carry Class and carry concealed when off post. They want to be able to protect their family, husband included.
