Handicap Average

If you guys don't mind bragging a little, I am wondering what your averages are at your local trap club and at what yardages. I have just finished my fourth season shooting handicap trap and have worked up to a 22.5 average at 22 yards. Just wondering how I stack up.

 ;)Thunder, I think I shot for about 4 years, and when I quit I was at 23 or 23.5, I am not sure.... Haven't shot a registered target since 1995, I am sure my score would be low today. Fun game. Just got away from going, and my trap shooting pal passed away, so goes life... Hang in there....

It's been a long time since I shot trap regularly and never shot competition but I do find it odd you speak of averages on 25 targets I presume rather than on 100. I've never known skeet, trap or sporting clays shooters to talk of an average per round as opposed to average per 100 targets.

Back when I shot it regularly we mostly shot for money not prizes and ya didn't take much money home if ya missed very often. We seldom shot from closer than the 27 yard line except when shooting on my range that had a skeet and trap field superimposed. We did a lot of games from the skeet pads which worked out to at least 27 yards as it's 21 to the stake and our trap house was easily another 5 to 7 yards further out. We shot one match from a measured 37 yards behind the trap house. It was only a five shot match (we liked to get on to the next match quickly it was for money after all) and it was seldom won with less than four of five and a few of us turned in five of fives on a fairly regular basis tho not many did.

At my prime I was around 92% to 95% at the 27 yard line. Now I'd hate to hazard a guess at what I could do as it's been many years and my shoulder can no longer deal with 12 ga. recoil.

 ;) I guess I misread the opening lines... Sorry, when I quit reg. trap, my handicap was from the 23 or 23.5 yard line. I never moved back farther than that. But like GB we used to play many games at the local club. So far havent shot there for about 3 years. Did try a little skeet last summer.....

I've been shooting registered trap for 6 years now, moved back to the 23.5 but couldn't maintain the average so I take the reductions when they offer them. Right now I'm back to the 22. It's always fun to work your way back. Someday I'll make the 27 and stay there.

When I stopped shooting for money I was at the 27 (99%) yard line. I had been there for years and enjoyed the challenge. The one thing that improved my singles was shooting lots of doubles. This does help with your handicap scores. Shooting in the middle of the pad was very hard for me with others shooting 2 yards in front or 2 yards behind me. I could do it, but it just drove me nuts do to someone shooting longer yards and I wanted to be there with them.

 Congrats on the 22 yard punch! For me it is not how far back you are but how much fun you are having ;D
