FourBee, on your next skunk adventure, when you set the trap down for release, have a stick or wire ready to hold the door open for you, gently uncover that part of the cage, and he will exit quicker, and with you up wind in case at the last minute, he becomes indignant at being relocated.
When I relocate varmints such as skunks, I usually vaccinate them when getting them out of the cage. I use a Remington, or Winchester to do the vaccination, as I wouldn't want them to catch any thing, and with skunks ESPECIALLY rabies.
