Unwanted Guest ~ Revisited !
« on: November 06, 2009, 03:22:29 PM »
I get to try out Dee's Tactic in the morning.  :o
DEE; I hope it works. 8)

Our Church has been plagued these past few months by skunk odors.   Finally they found a dug out under one of the Church's Air-Conditioners.  They'd plug the hole, only to find it open again and again. :-\
So today during a Church Cook-Out I checked out the situation, and sure-nuff  there under the Conditioner was a hole and rocks and dirt pushed out all about it.  So I retrieved my live trap from home and set it just before dark tonight.   Later, after the Cook-Out was overwith we found that little critter already trapped.  ;D And guess what?   ???   I got elected to get rid of it.  :P  That's why I had to revisit 'Unwanted Guest' to find Dee's post about removing these little darlings odorlessly.... ;)

HEH. A church mouse yes, we can afford one of those, but your Church must be doing real well to be able to afford a skunk. Good luck. POWDERMAN.  :D :D

Just move slow, and if he show any  discomfort stop and wait. Keep the blanket, tarp what ever between you and him until you can cover him, and he will be fine.
Another way, is to screw a syringe onto a broom handle, fill it with acetone, and squirt him with water as you walk up. He will Sully as long as your hitting him with water, and at the same time take you poll, and inject the acetone into him. He will die quickly and odorlessly.

                                                   H U R R A Y    !

Thanks Dee.   8:00 a. m.   Dressed in old clothing for worst case scenerio and with an old horse blanket held out in front of me, I slowly approached the trapped skunk.   Lowering the blanket to completely cover the trap kept the little critter calm, just as Dee said.
So far so good.
Now what's he gonna do when I lift the trap?   Nothin!,  - alright !   ::) After gently setting him in the back of the truck we were off to the soybean fields in the river bottoms.   Easily lowering the tailgate I carefully lifted him out of the truck and placed him facing a dark shaded row of soybeans.   Pulling back the horse blanket just enough to unlatch the trap door I  very slowely lifted the door open and waited, and waited while thinking "this is stupid".   Then I saw a black nose and I held my breath.   He waddled out of the trap with his tail dragging and I didn't move as he vanished into the soybeans.  Good riddance, and thank God that's over with.

no slim rem 7, they will not, if you are speaking of the acetone needle. They very quickly, and very quietly go to sleep. You stir the corpse of the skunk around, and he will eventually leak for sure..

FourBee, on your next skunk adventure, when you set the trap down for release, have a stick or wire ready to hold the door open for you, gently uncover that part of the cage, and he will exit quicker, and with you up wind in case at the last minute, he becomes indignant at being relocated.

When I relocate varmints such as skunks, I usually vaccinate them when getting them out of the cage. I use a Remington, or Winchester to do the vaccination, as I wouldn't want them to catch any thing, and with skunks ESPECIALLY rabies.

Last night I mistakenly thought him to be a spotted skunk.   They are illegal to take in Oklahoma, so I didn't bother to bring the vaccinating equipment.   But when I picked up the trap this morning, it was heavy, and I knew it wasn't the little spotted skunk (or as they call'em here 'civit cat').   He turned out to be a Hooded Skunk, with solid white from head to tail over the entire top and spots on the sides.  First one I'd ever seen, and really don't care to see another one. ;D ;D ;D

FourBee you missed a great opportunity. You should have boxed the little critter up and sent him special delivery to the white house. Kind of a early Christmas gift. Obama probably would have thought it was a souped up cat of some kind. ;D

They can actually make very loving pets.  When I was a boy I had an aunt who kept full scented skunks in her house.  She would tell us, "They live here, you don't, don't upset them!"  To each thier own. 8)

Someone could turn Fourbee in for cruelty to animals if he had done that.  Skunks have sensitive noses you know.
