Prairie Home Companion show?
« on: November 08, 2009, 06:21:55 AM »
What do you think of Prairie Home Companion? It's on at times when I want to listen to the radio, but I don't listen to it. I listened to it a few times and the impression I got was that it applies professionals to an amateur hour format.

Used to be good before Garison Keiler started using it for a forum for his wacky leftist views.

It's an aquired taste. You have to pay attention to get many of the jokes. There are running story lines that get better the longer you listen also. I'll listen mostly because I am tired of music radio.

Never heard of it until this thread. Doubt I'll ever hear of it again other than in this thread. I've not turned a radio on in years so if it's on radio I'll never know about it.

when i was in highschool, my dad and i would standing the kitchen, listening to the small radio sitting on the counter. listening to  garrison tell stories about his home in saint paul. listened to the stories and jokes and really enjoyed the entertainment we got from those simple stories and skits.
to this day i tune on sunday afternoon and listen the show. brings back some fond memories.
i like it and will continue to listen. setting aside the political views and correctness, its pretty clean harmless entertainment that lets your imagination run free a little bit and some clean jokes about life.
sure beats some of the bull thats out there now days..

GB:

Does that mean you're watching TV, playing video games, or surfing the net while driving?

I like radio while working in the kitchen. I used to listen to the radio while driving, but now that we have podcasts, I just don't bother with direct broadcast of radio any more.

Nope it means I'm paying attention to the road and the vehicles around me. I am not distracted by noise from inside. I also don't talk on a cell phone while driving.

I used to really enjoy listening to Keillor's stories about Lake Woebegone and looked forward to his broadcast every week until I went to photograph a rehearsal for A Prairie Home Companion.  His attitude and tone toward his crew members blew it for me.  He acted like a complete a$$ to them.  I never listened to his show again, it just wasn't funny to me anymore.

I used to listen to a Prairie Home Companion. I've never met Mr. Keilor, but I have met some of his relatives. IMO Garrison Keilor is an anti christian bigot.

I remember going to a friends cabin on weekends and sharing work like wine making, hog dressing, butchering, grinding corn, cutting wood etc. We had no electric there and used to listen to Praire home companion on a portable radio. Late at night, we would hear the coyotes howl. It was neat.
The show was kinda corny, but was clean listening that you didn't mind our kids listening to it.
Then Garrison went overseas for a while and when he returned, I thought he was a little nasty in some of his comments, so I quit listening. Donna got me a set of tapes of his early shows for Christmas one year and it brings back a flood of memories. It seems like all good things change.

I've never heard of it either. If it has anything to do with prairie dog hunting, which my wife and I did on our honeymoon, I'ld like to listen to it. But I don't think we get it this far back east. gypsyman

We listened to it for years.  We didn't have a TV for about 30 years, so it was ok.  If Garrison doesn't sing I can listen.  If he starts singing I have to turn it off.  Most media is anti-Christian should we turn it off?  Most people are bigots but still we must interact with them.
