Burris Fastfire on GP100 or S&W 686?
« on: November 08, 2009, 12:12:51 PM »
Just a quick question...is it possible to mount a Burris Fastfire red dot sight on either the Ruger GP100 4" or the S&W 686 4"?

Thanks.

Was it a stupid question, or does no one actually know the answer?

Can either be drilled to accept it? My eyes aren't what they used to be, so I'd rather have a dot on a single plane than have to line up front/rear/target.

Since sometime in the early '90s, the S&W revolvers have been drilled and tapped for scope bases. There are Weaver sight bases that attach to the holes drilled under the rear sight. Weigand among others makes the base. Easy to attach, just remove the rear sight. The Burris sight attaches to the rail with a Weaver base.

Ruger isn't drilled and tapped for this. You would have to have that done.

I have popped the rear sight on a couple of my S&W revos and mounted a red dot for accuracy testing. It is great fun, but it doesn't stay on. I have an Ultradot LT mounted on a Ruger MK II678GC. That is a super combination. The Ultradot is very similar to the Burris sight.
