A news blip to make me skeptical

This is the first sentence of the first paragraph of a news story about the fort hook murderer in today's comcast news:

The Army psychiatrist accused of the Fort Hood massacre apparently acted alone and without outside direction, investigative officials said Monday evening, even as the FBI launched an internal review of how it handled information gathered about the doctor nearly a year before the shooting.

Now they're talking about his having ties to the original 9/11 bunch on the local news.

There were some email interceptions between him an a radical cleric living in Yemen (who has since praised his attacks), but they were pretty vague in context.  Nothing regarding a attacks or such - just general religious discussion. If he knew computers well enough though you can obfuscate an encrypted email to such a person though that they'd never be able to read nor trace.  The government relies on gathering evidence from careless people because if the two parties on each end know what they're doing, snooping on such communications is simply too difficult (borderline impossible with proper encryption).

Not sure yet.  Maybe he really did just snap.  Maybe not.  Since he actually survived we might actually have a shot at getting the full story.

You know what , some in govt don't want us to know the truth . They feel we won't act like they want us to if we do . When you consider the number of Muslims here in the USA  seems only normal some will do things like this , just like whites , Native Americans , African Americans etc. do . As a people we need to face facts and get over the race thing and protect ourselves from those willing to kill us no matter the color of their skin . I will put it this way if 6'2" white men are blowing up people on a reg. basis and i get checked out it won't bother me , at least i won't be a target anymore !

I'll agree with you - I'll make no secret that I'm never against profiling or religious discrimination (Timothy McVeigh managed to kill plenty of people without being Arabic nor Muslim - every group produces it's own crazy people), but if this guy was showing clear signs then action should have been taken.  Race or religion should not cause you undue burden or suspicion, but neither should it afford you a specific lack of *justified* suspicion when it truly is called for.  In truth, as the First Amendment says, the government in general should not even view it as an issue.

The reason the military keeps saying this is not an act of terrorism, is that it is declared to be then the investigation goes to Homeland Security.  There may be some things here the military does not want to get out.  They don't like to air their dirty laundry, or things that might lead to classified information.

he did not flip out, he planned this and carried it out. he probably did not recieve instructions on just what to do but i bet he got the ok to do something from the iman he was talking to and those he emailed. they probably blessed him and assured him that there would be 27 virgins and a few camels waiting on him .
