Sorry to hear that, Double D. Don't want that to be a one-time event! Maybe 2011, like you said...

The clubs lease is due to expire in just under 4 years and is unliklely to be renewed.

I get the impression there is little or no BLM-type land up there (guess it has to have no economic value for the government to keep it.)

but , perhaps we will prevail . If all else fails I have a nice pasture that would do . Has a nice steep bank to back stop in . But ..... Seacoast's  5 gallon mortar might be a problem with a 1 1/2 lbs of powder behind a Bowling Ball !  ::)
Perhaps by then  I will have hook ups available here @ main farm .  I have been wanting to put in a few spots for the fall hunters .   Time will tell. In any case Dry camp sites could be available for tents or self contained campers.  sorry the wife is up in age where she is done cooking ,cleaning ,and caring  for the people I invite to visit.  :(

The problem isn't finding a place to shoot...Southpaws place would be ideal. The problem would be getting the protection of insurance that comes with shooting on the Gun Club's property.

Insurance is truly a pain.  If your club carries insurance from the NRA recommended provider (Lockton Risk Services), you might be surprised to know that their policies do not cover live fire cannon shoots.

If the club is using some other provider and they explicitly cover live cannon fire events, please let me know the name of the agent or broker.

Maybe someone here that belongs to the NSSA or another re-enactment group can find out who their insurance underwriters are

it would be a start..... from what I remember insurance was not that bad years ago.  Check with the NRA see if they can recommend

an underwriter.

Insurance isn't the issue in Cut Bank, the range is the problem.

I have emailed two of the higher ups of N-SSA asking about their insurance and have not received a reply.  The NRA promoted insurance is through Lockton Risk Services and I have personally talked with their representative and asked about insurance for live fire cannon events and they do not provide any nor does the club coverage they provide cover events of that type.

I am going to contact some insurance agents/brokers this week and see what I can find out.  It would be appreciated if anyone who has close contacts in the insurance industry could also make inquiries and post here what they find.

The Whittington Center N.M. NRA range welcomes live fire cannon events . Why not start with their inssurance ?

It's only about three hours or so from here .

The insurance for the Camp Grayling long range match is had at a cost of $9.00/ shootercrew for the event.Think the coverage was 2 million and you pay and signup at the event. I belive that it is the same company that the N-ssa uses. Will check. Artilleryman may have the answer.
   Early, need coffee.

Since we're talking insurance.........my wife is setting up a branch office in New York.........with no experience at all in US -company liability insurance...would she be better approaching an Insurance Company direct for a quote.........or going through a broker / agent. Any info....Companies with good record  ( do they exist ? )   experiences with liability insurance...etc etc would be appreciated.

Funny you should resurrect this topic, Goerge.  Gun club meeting tonight. Cannon shoot is on the agenda.  Lots of pressure to have a shoot and options offered. Cannon shoot suggested a fund raiser.  One guy even sent me out to look at a piece of ground.

I'll let you know what happens.

It's a dry cold!!

Here's what went on tonight.

The club faced the reality that they need to look for another piece of land.  They are going to have a special meeting next month and the folks from the State Trust lands are going to come talk to us about state lands that may be available.

The Club is filing for tax exempt status as a social club.

The Club President resigned.

The Three Members of the Board of Directors were relected.

The Board of Director selected the Club Secretary to fill the interim President postion remaining term
