I also received an order from Oklahoma City last year. It contained (50) 16oz., (50) 3oz. and (50) 1oz. balls. It was shipped in a flat rate box and made it safe and sound.  However, our female postal worker would not deliver it on her day and it was delievered the following day by our male delivery person.  :)

Yes, they were purchased for my "Dom" Dictator with a 1.71" bore. At the time of purchase they were $1.68 each.

Leave the politics over on the political websites...I have enough stress in my life trying to decide what household chore I am not going to do today!!  Bragging on your kids is not politics.

Intoodeep,
Does "Oklahoma City" have a sheet of set sizes of lead ball that they mold?

I'd buy 10 carbon steel ones to try. More if they worked well.

I have lots of lead and can cast balls, but figure in the hassle factor along with the cost of electricity/propane and $2 shipped isn't a bad price.

I think you guys who have successfully shipped/received heavy stuff in unreinforced USPS Flat Rate boxes got lucky. I don't trust them for anything over 20# without beefing them up with (at minimum) an inside layer of triple-wall corrugated cardboard.

I'm interested in up to 100 or so depending on the price, under $2 each plus shipping.

Using scrap plywood I have lined those flat rate boxes and shipped 50+ lbs of wheelweight ingots to get in return 50+ lbs of zinc via those boxes.

Saw a story in the news that those boxes are money makers for the post office. There is some reduced cost in handling time becasues of flat rate, but most of the shipments going out in them are far under weight for the charge.

I talked with Ken at Fox this Morning.

First Fox is watching this thread.  They are very much interest in producing balls for use if they believe there is a market. If they see via this thread there is a market they will make golf ball size balls

The balls they produce are forged, not cast.  No sprue mark.

Balls will have a .01mm(0.0003936996 inch) dimensional tolerance and 1% roundness tolerance.

Once the decison is made that there is a market  and Fox decides to produce the balls it will be about 80 days before the balls are available.

Fox is well aware the price point is the critcal factor and should have us an estimate in the next two or three days.

....

Having a tolerance of 0.005" would suit me fine.

Maybe we should develop a QA tool that measures what we actually need, that is, the ability to roll down a cylindrical bore of 1.700" (or whatever we decide) without getting stuck.  The shot does not have to be perfectly spherical but does need to traverse the bore without difficulty.

Honestly , I hope you know that yous guys are arguing over NONSENSE , Kunze you are having your sport and you know it , and Tim ....They are way better than that !!!!!!!!!!!!

Quit pisking and worrying , DAMN IT ,THESE ARE Grade AAA MATCH TARGET BALLS

Yikes you's guys get silly over this !

They could probably pass for Grade c precision balls !!!!! This is from a former HIGH TECH MECHANICAL INSPECTOR For 22 years.

IF you guys buy a ball of 1.7..whatever and dont like it THEN I WILL BUY IT FROM YOU ....at some point !!!

Yikes almighty , start a new thread on something new or other ! IT's been kinda dead around here latley...somebody with some interesting cannon notion ....POST IT !

For instance  ,this very day I spent about 8 hours making a two piece mold for Morko  ;D it's nearly half way done .  Very entertaining so Morko is coming along nicely , almost ready for silicone .

Well bye for now Gary

That is suppose to be a basic tool in you cannon tool kit...a bore guage.  Every one should have one for their cannon.

If you have built your golf ball cannon to the recommended bore dimensions of 1.723 you should have no problem with balls from Fox.

A golf ball gun with proper windage would need a minimum bore of 1.723 inch.
The diameter of a golf ball is 1.68 inch. .  (1.68/39)x40=1.723
http://www.learnaboutgolf.com/beginner/balltypes.html

If you have a bore smaller that 1.723 will need to check these balls before using them or have your cannon rebored.

If the balls go into production, I hope everyone who has indicated that they will buy X# of balls will follow through with a purchase.

It's not nice to get a manufacturer to tool up for something and then not buy it from them.

Not to be a pest, but did you happen to ask about the 2.25" steel balls.

Maybe I missed this, but what about RW hardness of this forged material. Possibly you may always want to sabot these if you shoot allot?

Thanks.

I am only focusing on golf ball size at this time and did not consider RW a relevant issue for this use.

I have not asked about any other sizes, just this golf ball size.  I want to stay focused on getting Fox to make us what we need.  Once they see we are a legitimate and viable market we can approach them about other sizes.  This is the door opener.

Right now here on the board interest has been expressed in about 669 total balls.  I have to now convince Fox this is just the tip of the iceberg.  I have to convince Fox you guys are going to buy the 669 balls and then after shooting htem you ar going to order more.

So

The offer Fox is making us just came in and here it is:

  • Carbon steel forged balls 42.8 mm (1.685 in.)
Smooth and round – tolerance +/- 0.001 mm
    $1.00 each + freight
approx 80 days to produce and have them in stock.

If you are interested and would purchase these balls and you haven't said so yet, please say so now and say how many you are interested in.  I need to give Fox some numbers to convince them to make these.

Rocklock and Spuddy, you both said yep, how many is yep?
