Speer Gold Dot bullets
« on: October 17, 2003, 11:29:39 AM »
Anyone have any experiance with the Speer 270 grain Gold Dot soft point bullet in a 44 Mag on whitetails or hogs? They shoot real nice out of my Marlin 1894P loaded over 19.8 grains of Win 296 for about 1500 fps.

Two Years, 2 Deer

I have had good luck with the Speer 270 gr. Gold Dot on whitetail deer for the last two years. Both were close shots (within 100 feet), 1 running the other walking. Both took 1 shot, and the bullet completely penetrated through the chest in both, exiting on the off side. Both deer took about a 20 yard stumble after being hit and expired with no additional shot needed in about a minute. I am using a Ruger Deerfield.
