I just save my vacation days and use them for next week. Then it's back to work for three whole days and off to Wisconsin for rifle season. ;D

I predict that GrimJim will one day just leave Illinois and become a resident of Wisconsin. ;D

Nope. If and when I leave here, I'm going through Wisconsin to the U. P.

Well then, that's a good choice too. Might I suggest you go up through Michigan and over the bridge to get there.

I think that's more out of my way actually. I have relatives in Calumet and that's where I'd be heading. North of Houghton/Hancock towards copper harbor.

Heck, here in PA, a lot of schools and businesses close down for opening day of buck....:)

When I was a kid, the school in my hometown closed for the entire deer season. Not sure, but they might still be letting the kids out to go hunting.

What really gripes me is that IL will use your social security along with a question form when you get your Hunting License to determine if you are delinquent on child support payments.

I am not saying that this is bad, but wonder why they do not do it for one who is simply renewing a drivers license or getting a loan for a house or car along with many other state forms?

I will tell you why. IMO, a liberal Chicago legislator targeted hunters and decided to use the hunting license to catch the delinquent because they figured that hunters were just dumb bubba's and the only ones who would be delinquent on not making these payments. They (the legislators) knew that the public would be outraged if this request was made mandatory on other forms.

Hey guys, I usually do the Northern U.P., but have been in IL  last year & this. It does not feel right sitting home on the 15th. I can only hunt the 1st season firearms, & maybe M-L. I'll be on a friend's lease N of Peroia with 4 tags to burn. I'll be back in the U.P. soon. I actually saw a fair sized buck up there last week, near our Baraga co property. There were a few wolf tracks to go with it though. My 284win & 308's have been wondering why they sit idle.

Your guns talk to you? You're not the only one who has the gift, Sourdough. :D Mine are always saying something or other to me. Nobody believes me, but now I have you to back me up on this - guns do talk - if you know how to listen. ;)

Sounds like much of the corn will still be up & the temps from upper 30's to 50's.
