guns without a car
« on: November 12, 2009, 10:07:27 AM »
well i don't have a car and my mom does not have a car. We used to have a car and i could good to the range or hunting whenever i wanted but now we don't.  I ride the bus and do you think if i had a handgun in a lock case, with no ammo in it and no with me could a lawful get on the bus and ride down to the range with it?

I saw a mac 11 in 380acp that been calling my name and i wanted it but used sure how i could go shoot it lawful when i have to ride with it in a back pack to the range with it.

If you are a reglar at the range, I would suggest contacting someone there with whom you have interacted and ask for a ride.  Expain the situation, ask politely, and I'm sure someone there would come by once in a while to take you with them.
I am not sure about your laws where you live, so I can't speak to the bus issue.

Best of luck, Arch

Get a concealed carry permit. Then put said long gun in a plain ol box tape it shut and carry to range. Nobody knows nuthin' 'bout nuthin'. If something does somehow arrise the ccw permit ought to have some sway, it would here in Mn. Theoreticaly we could carry an uncased AR anywhere it isn't posted, But it is a pretty narrow area to walk down and the risk VS. rewards aspect don't favor the fool trying this. Call a CCW instructor and pose your question that would be the best source of info I can think of.

Reread post, You are talking handgun. Get one of those zip up book covers that are intended for a Bible. Nice big cross or fish emblem on it, Black slacks white button down shirt and plain tie. You won't be able to get eye contact on a bet, let alone any scrutiny.

I've never seen a bus stop at a free rifle range.  Most of the ones in my area are out in the middle of nowhere.  If your finances are to the point of not being able to have a car, I'd suggest working on that first.   You can't afford a payed range.  It doesn't take much of a job to buy an old beater.  My first car cost all of 50 bucks at the time.  I guess it was more like 3-500 bucks today.  It was an old 49 Plymoth Mayflower.  The thing required more work than it did parts.  I drove that car for 10 years while working myself through college.  You can do it, but I'd put transportation before guns any day. It's just not safe not having a way to travel other than the bus.  What would you do in an emergency and all public transportation was down...Think of Katrina, there were many people stranded with no help from government agencies.  You can't depend on the government for anything when emergencies happen.

Concealed carry permit is probably cheaper than a car, and cuts right to the heart of the problem. Why not get the permit and protect yourself everywhere not just at home?

I looking into a CCP. as for not haveing a car not being safe, I live right next to the city fire/cop station so there right there. The PSTA run everywhere in pineall coutry(also the bus stop right there by the the 3 ranges here in pinealls) i have used it to carry ammo, food, pets, or anything and never had a problem, i sometime go to the range with my blackpowder gun or air rifles some times.  the power been off for a week sometimes but it could never have a Katrina zone. For one thing here in this state rich and poor area are within blocks sometimes feet of each other, We have lots of cops both F&W and state, in Katrina they were keeping people(black mostly) in the city, the cops were openly hunting/shooting people(black) and well just that hole city is a bad place before and after Katrina. New Orleans is just like any bad city so it could happen anywere there is a bad city. Everything about that was just FOBAR. In FL we are ready for anything and when it's time to go, everyone is gone.

The worst thing that i had so far was when the locked down treasure island  and i had to stay there tell after the storm pass the next day.

jamal dog

you did well to ignore the snub-like remarks about your financial status (keep your eyes on the prize)
however be aware that the money needed for training/class and the time are requisites to make it harder to acquire.  if you don't have the right conditions worked out at home you'll have problems getting it (stable home address for sure, no people around that have drug/alcohol offenses, felons, etcetera).

florida is pro-gun (remember marion hammer got the concealed licensing ball rolling from florida to the other coast and everywhere in between) but I doubt public transit allows it-- just remember that you have to get caught, then the prosecution has to believe they can win a case against your offense, then they have to beat you.  Don't get caught, don't do anything negligent or politically incorrect, articulate your reasoning and do it with poise to show them you are going to fight in court if they take you.  that stops most stuff right there

that said know the law so you can stay on the right side of it, it's not the actions you take, but the way you present them in court that matter.  I'm not telling you to do it but it's a free country and you not only have the right to arms but freedom from search and seizure-- there is no common sense regulation, only strict interpretation, period.  the constitution says what it says.

if  i  made  a snub-like  remark
i  didn't  mean  it to be taken  that  way

i  am an  older  guy  with kids that  are young  adults now
and  i feel the  need  to advise  younger  folks......heck  i do  it to  older folks  too
some times  i am  not  too  polite   but  i do  mean  well  and  want you to do ''better''

mostly  my  advice  is  not welcome   tho  most will admit  it  is good advice

there  is an  excelent book  by  ???  gutmacher
strickly  on  florida  law  and  firearms
gutmacher is a lawer
i  have read several  additions [new one every year]
if  you can't find it  i will   look it up  and get a  mailing appress for  him

that could be a thread but ... oh wow whenever I get talking politics and morality I make people mad... I'll let you older/chilled out guys do that one

I can go ahead and tell someone to man up though, we all need to man up with obama in the oval office, don't let a single gun-related case go to court that they can turn into some bs legal precedent to chip at our rights

oh, yeah I got you

people in general cry and complain (more than that but vulgarity is prohibited here)
but when asked to serve upon a jury to judge a fellow citizen they will run scared
how inconvenient to miss a day of work or be called on to make a tough call
when the person that loses go to prison, or acquitted person gets to commit another crime

they'll still cry just as much as before though... just like people complaining that don't vote
there's some that don't vote or work and leech off others and still complain

that's why you gotta stand tall and be a man, because not everyone has character and they won't even look away while you get screwed- they'll stare intently but remain silent  (I'm not talking about outright rape but probably that too- how often does anyone fight back during an armed robbery when looking down a barrel, not often)

back to the point of this board- you don't want to be a victim jamal, be a man and fear no one.  know the law and use it as a weapon- fully expect your enemies to do the same.

snub-like remarks?? i did not read any. I still going to wait  cuase someone pointed out " well if your somewere were you can't carry your gun inside" so i just going to wait. Other then not haveing a car i am ready to go for guns. I just wanted one for shooting fun and i kind of miss my old lot of guns. I had a noble 12ga, H&R .22, a 1934 380 and some others i just got and sold cause i did not like/want them any more. I do have a blackpowder gun  and  go to the outdoor range with it. It looks like a Kentucky (1750-1850) gun, i was stop one time by a cop with that gun(had the gun case in my hand, most times i carry it in my bag )but he found on problem with it(i think he thoght it was a toy or something) he ask what it was i say it's a Kentucky pistol. this pistol was the kind used  during the War of Independence and of the Western pioneers.  After that i put it in my bag when i leave the range(the old case was steel and the last owner painted gun on it in red, the new case is black and has a indian on horseback on it and the back has the same.)

thanks anyways but i will stick with my Kentucky, airguns, and bow.

a  muzzle  loader  is  not  considered  a  firearm

unless it  is   used  as a firearm  in  commision of  a crime

if  i remember correctly

you  might advertise  on craigs list  for a  shooting partner
with  the price  of  ammo      get  a  22 lr    you can  afford  the  shoot  a  22
