Win 94 44mag Saddle Ring Carbine
« on: November 12, 2009, 04:30:34 PM »
I've had the bug to get into this Cowboy Action Shooting thing.. Went and watched a couple of events.

Picked up two Win 94 44mag Saddle Ring Carbine's this week.. Suitable for the rifle portion of the event?

Planning on going to the big gun show in Louisville in Dec and look for a couple used Vaquero's..

Thoughts?

Thanks!

LH

Yeah, the 94s will work for CAS. Not the best choice iffin yer really competitive, but they will work.

use them,
What Cuts Crooked means by the 94 is not competitive is:
The 94 is a long throw action.  It was designed for 30-30 / 32 Win Spl.
So the lever throw is longer than say the 73 or 92, Being based on 44-40  and later 45 Colt.  that is about 2/3 the length of the 30-30.
So the lever of the 94 will take you longer to move and cycle the rifle.
There is NOTHING wrong with the 94's.  Use them, get started and once you get the game down then you can move for speed and get the slicked up guns later if, or better, when you like the shoots.
Besides CAS is not about winning it is about having fun.  So, strap on your shoot'n Irons, grab your scatter gun, and knock the dust off your front sight, go out and have fun.

+1 on that!!!!! I shoot 92s, which are also not supposed to be among the "competitive" group. I do jist fine with em though, and won a state championship some years back. So go right ahead and jump in with those 94s, y'all will NOT regret it!
