Dumb crook of the day
« on: November 13, 2009, 03:15:43 AM »
TAMPA, Fla. —  Florida police say a man arrested for repeatedly calling 911 looking for sex claimed it was the only number he could dial after running out of cell phone minutes.

Tampa police said 29-year-old Joshua Basso made sexual comments to the 911 dispatcher and asked if he could come to her house.

Investigators say she hung up, but he called back four more times.

He was arrested about 15 minutes later at his home late Wednesday and charged with making a false 911 call. Basso reportedly told officers that he didn't think he would get in trouble for calling 911.

Tampa jail records show Basso is being held without bond but don't indicate whether he has an attorney. He is listed as unemployed with arrests for theft and other crimes dating back to 2001.

My last job before I retired, I worked out of the fire station on FT Wainwright.  The alarm room is where the 911 calls on post are directed to.  I would be there when the calls came in and you would not believe some of the calls we got.  It got so bad the Post Commander had a briefing of all new incoming personnel and their dependents.  He read them the riot act about making stupid 911 calls.

When Caller ID was installed, the Alarm Room Operator then reported all non emergency calls.  That report worked it's way up.  If a spouse or other dependent made  a non emergence call, the sponsor (active duty member) got to explain it to the commander.  All the BS calls took a nose dive.

This guy was just as stupid as the bank robber that handed his id to the bank teller then pulled a gun and robbed the place.  Running out leaving the teller holding his ID.

Unfortunately you cannot fix stupid, just delete it.

A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

He certainly gets high marks for efficiency. It's a very simple path to go from calling 911 to getting arrested if you do it that way.

I just read the account of an attempted armed robbery.  Seems the revolver toting perp tried to shoot his intended victim but the gun failed to fire when he pulled the trigger.  So he looked down the barrel of his gun and pulled the trigger again.  Yup, you guessed it... the gun worked fine that time.  ;D    :o
