Contender Sling...
« on: November 15, 2009, 09:23:11 AM »
Any suggestions (make or type) for one of these critters?

Do they work very well or are they more of a bother than good?

Thanks...BCB

a sling is what i use and prefer. i use it as a shooting aid, along with carry for a 14" barrel gun. it is a "super sling" by outdoor connection for a rifle. walmart is where i got mine. even though made for rifle, it shortens up real nice. i have 1" and 1 1/4" wide. the 1" i use on the contender, and 1 1/4" on the encore. i carry contender most.

you might look up the "just sling it" sling. it would probably be dandy. i think eabco carries it....or maybe stratton custom ??? there is a poster around somewhere that made them......"southernutah" maybe ???

I too learned a long time ago that slinging the TC pistols was the way to go for in the field.   I tried an Uncle Mikes sling, but soon had mine custom made by a leather worker with the features I wanted to make them more versatile.

Glen can't chime in as he is not a sponsor here, but I've played with his "just sling it" system and it is a good choice.   Has a take-up buckle for carry that will quick release to a preset length for a sling stabilized shot offhand or benched (so it works similar to my custom slings).   Well made and very easy on the pocket book.

Evolution at work. Over two million years ago the genus Homo had small cranial capacity and thick skin to protect them from their environment. One species has evolved into obese cranial fatheads with thin skin in comparison that whines about anything and everything as their shield against their environment. Meus

BCB if you have any questions just PM me. I started making them years ago for the guys that were at Virgin Valley when they first opened , most of the the guys are now at MGM and Straton Custom. Fred and Bullbery has used one hunting. Real simple to use.

+1 on the "Just Sling It".  I've been using it for about 6-7 years and now consider nothing else ;D.

I too have been thinking of a sling for one of my contenders with the pacmayer grips so what do you use for butt conection, is there a special bolt for this?

glen,

The sling worked really well.  I found a stud to screw into the forearm and into the barrel.  I purchased an inexpensive set of swivels and installed the sling.  It took a bit of adjusting, but I finally got it to the proper length.  I could then lift the Contender from the relaxed position and have it at arm's length and a fair rest just with the sling.  With the use of the sling and a good rest again a tree, the Contender was very solid.  The "Just Sling It" works well...

And finally, no I didn't get a shot at a deer!  Maybe tomorrow as our doe season starts and it runs with our antlered season for a week or so...

A good investment on my part...

Thanks...BCB

Decon, I can't remember exactly how the pacs mount but if the same as factory grip Michaels's of Oregon made a set them but I haven't seen them on their site lately. they are set # 13032 called QD 115 T/C. There are still a few available out there. They replace the grip bolt with longer stud and spacer. there are a few on ebay listed cheaper than they use to be.They had a tendancy to bend a little but they worked. I've made my own for my Encore pistol.

BCB, glad it's working good for you .Give us a heads up on your deer hunt when you get the big one.

Work OK if just used for carry not for shooting assist.

I use the same stock bolt by Micheal's for the Pachy's.  I shorten it by a few threads so it doesn't protrude quite as far.  The Pachmyer grip is a little shorter than factory.

I use a sling on both my encores and contenders when in in the field.

I  just put a normal sling stud in the center of the forends and a sling kit for the grip screw.

I went to walmart and got a 1" wide strap from the camping section  and that works very well for me. I can make the sling as short  or as long as I need the nilon strap is only a few dollers. and works jsut as well as the commercial slings I have bought.
