1 1/4 OZ 1600 FPS - Federal Power Shock slugs

I bought em cuz they were cheap but now afraid to shoot em. My last
ones were Winchester Super X  1 oz at 1600 fps.
I guess 1600 fps is the magic threshold for marketing.
I am just now wrapping my head around these slugs being
faster than a hyper velocity 22 long rifle rimfire. Dang !
and what 535 grains.   More thatn twice as fast as a 45 ACP
pistol bullet AND more than twice as heavy.

Were 12 ga ever used to shoot big game in Africa or
Buffalo or Polar bears ?    I dont think a lot of those
25 dollaar a shot African big game rifle cartridges are
any more powerful.

Come to think of it, the trajectory of these slugs should
be close to 22 rimfire as well given the slighter greater
velocity but lesser density per frontal area.

What do these kinds of ammo do to adult deer at fifty
yards or less.  Do they always shoot clean through ?
or do they deform usually and lodge inside the animal ?

they'll be fine on deer under 50 yards, using rifle sights
and they won't kick too bad, don't think about and just aim well!

A 1 1/4 oz slug @ 1600 fps is generating over 3,000 ft lbs of energy @ the muzzle.  I can't speak for anyone else, but I personally find that to be a "bit" of kick.

What type of slug gun are you using?  What does it weigh?  Scope or no scope? What distances would your typical shot be?

12 bores were used on the big African game.  But they learned that even with the 10, 8, and 4 bore guns that the big soft lead slugs and balls would deform and wouldn't penetrate all that well on the thick skinned and boned game.  Thats why there was a sudden migration to the Nitro Express guns using jacketed bullets.

Well I bought those Federal Power-Shock 12 ga slugs that said
1 1/4 ounce and 1600 fps.    My rough calculations were wrong
before.  They are actually  600 grains
No wonder they were on clearance and selling for cheap.
This one time I might pay for being cheap and sucker for
the good deal ? ? ?

 And the man said they might kick a little with my 5 pound Topper.

Bought one of those 20ga-.22 rossi youth abominations for my wife...True love, she shot it once with the 20ga. barrel an didn't divorce me...I shot it once outa sympathy...newdad shot it once...then it was traded for a mossberg 500 that didn't kick near as bad..
