Please help with new lure
« on: November 16, 2009, 04:25:18 AM »
Well last year there were 6 guys starting out local and I helped them in getting set up. I thought I had another box of lure but looked the other day and have about a quarter a jar. It's not cold enough here so I have plenty of time even though season started yesterday. Was wanting some help from you fellows since I haven't bought any in 20 years or so. It has to be cat friendly because I trap two places near houses with cats. Does not need to be dog friendly. Already checked yesterday at 20 some houses to make sure no one got a dog from last year. I was using blueberry.

I end up going after a little bit of everything. I do mix my own fish stinkers away from the two little old ladies when after bobcats. But 80 percent of the time I just used the blueberry as a curiosity. I trap about anything that is around me: Bobcat, Coyote, Fox, Mink, Muskrat, Beaver, Opossum, Otter, Raccoon and Skunk. Just looking for a catch all if anything new is out there.  Was thinking a persimmon based scent since they should start falling this week. But figured you guys know a lot more about baits than me. And I have no problem buying something if you guys figure a persimmon/glycol/honey bait won't do very well.

Thanks a lot guys.

Arier, several of the sweet baits and lures I carry, are pretty much stayed away from by cats-but nothing is ever 100%.But a lot of the  good bobcat, canine and mink lures would not .Even my beaver lures, which would also take felines and canines ,would probably be attractive to cats.
Heck I have even caught cats while doing squirrel work--with apple--peanut butter and nuts,as bait.
